Hi,
I have had CFS for 12 years. When I first got ill I was 18 and didn't really worry about what affect CFS would have on wanting to get pregnant.
I am 28 years old now and have a terrible dilemma.
I have been told I have endometriosis and this will affect my fertility the longer I leave it..I may even need IVF now to get pregnant but I am not yet sure about that.

I am still feeling really ill, very tired...very low blood pressure, flu like etc etc and I have been advised to go under general anasethic this month to get the cysts removed (it's not urgent, I can leave it longer but the longer I leave it the more it ruins my fertility).

My problem is I think a general anasethic will knock me out..I feel better than I did when i first got ill (I got ill after a general anasethic in the first place)
So I don't really want to have the cysts removed yet but apparantly pregnancy is good for endo and I should do it soon as I am running out of time.

You all know what it feels like to have CFS I can't even climb the stairs without needing a rest!, I can't work, and even studying at college for one day a week proved to be too much.

Has anyone got pregnant and had a baby with severe CFS?

Be honest if you think I should just give up on the idea of having children let me know....As I said the endo is becoming more severe and if I don't do it soon I probably will not be able to have kids but how can I carry a baby when I can't even "carry" myself!!

Let me know your thoughts!

Thanks

Do you have a doctor who is knowledable specifically about CFS or FM?? A specialist?? If you can find one (they are few in number) I think you should be discussing this with them.

I have read A LOT about CFS (had it for 2 years) and visit another message board fequently about CFS and several people have asked about CFS and pregnancy.

From what I have read, many times CFS and FM actually go into remission when a woman is pregnant. It is thought to be a hormonal thing.

I have read that CFS either gets better or stays the same with pregnancy. That said...it isnt uncommon to have a relapse after you give birth.

I dont think you should give up the dream of having kids if it is something you really want!! You could be sick forever or get bettter....it is a gamble. You should be realistic though. If you are very debilitated to the point where you cant care for yourself, then caring for kids will be hard....you will need help if your husband/parterner works and you will be a stay at home mom....do you work now??

Have you considered freezing your eggs? I know that is very expensive but I just thought I'd ask.

Dont give up this dream, but be realistic-kids and everything in life are a gamble anyways, but some things are worth it. Don't let anyone tell you to give up you dream of having kids-NO ONE can make that decision for you!!
