paul mckenna!!!! i was a size 14 ( uk) and tried weight watchers, healthy eating by myself, slimming world, slim fast and lost weight but hated it, it always felt difficult and some how not right, something always told me diets were wrong.
i read Paul mckennas book ' i can make you thin' and never dieted again.
im now a size 10-12 and eat what ever i want and am still losing weight.
i just follow the rules now of which are second nature
1- eat only when hungry
2- eat what you truley want ( not what you think you should be eating)
3-eat conciously-enjoy each mouthful
4-STOP when you are full/satisfied
this Works!!!!!!! i lost well over a stone and i wasnnt very overweight to begin with.im still slowly losing weight and i will stop natrually once i reach a weight that my body is happy with and will maintain that weight.
many people may be sceptical but i was to and i believe overweight or not this is how we should eat anyway its a natrual way to live.
and is a healthy attitude to food.

I believe that's a very healthy attitude! Unfortunately for most people it wouldn't be as easy to follow as it sounds.
Congrats to you on your loss though!

good question,as so many people are confused by diets telling them what time to eat and how much that we dont actually no when we are hungry.
i had this problem in the beginning,i would wait till i was dizzy with hunger to make sure i was hungry, which is obvioulsy not good!!!
then i realised that i do no when im hungr i get a slight empty feeling at the top of my tummy ( solar plexus).
and when i feel comfortably full i stop eating.
if you still feel you will be unsure his book says to tune in to yourself every hour and ask if you are hungry? not bored,p***ed off but really hungry and eventually you will notice the different feeling of hunger and it will become second nature then.
i cant really recommend this book enough.
dont eat at times when you think you should be ie breakfast at 8am lunch at 12 ect eat when you want to ,be it 7 or 9 am-the body will tell you.

Those really are great tips. I have tried to follow the "eat only when you're hungry" rule and the "enjoy every bite" rule and I have lost around ten pounds this summer. Hopefully I will continue to lose. It's not a "diet" so much as a better way of thinking.

Hunger is an interesting point. My dietitian told me that feeling hunger is necessary and that is when your body is shrinking.....that you shouldnt eat just because you are hungry, but go on calorie diet.\
Funny world isnt it?

I believe different rules apply to different people. You always hear about counting your calories and making sure you don't go over or under a specific number. Some people may need 5-6 small meals to help them get through the day. Some people may need 3. Some may only need 2. A couple of years ago, I was taking some medication that took away my appetite (god I wish I could get a hold of some of that stuff again!) and I was barely taking in 2 meals a day. In 5 weeks, I lost 15 lbs, sitting on my behind with absolultely no exercise. If I went into starvaton mode, I didn't know it. So, the point I'm trying to make is, short of anorexia and bulemia, you need to stick with whatever situation is going to work for you.

I disgree with this method, if a person only eats when there hungry and it don't matter what it is and you eat until your full?
if I ate that way I
would Balloon up bad.
As for as exercising sure that helps, but to lose weight it is mostly what and how much you eat. you do not have to exercise to lose weight.
if you eat a healthy and bal meal and not over eat your calorie intake for your bodys BMI you will lose.(obvisously)
a person can adjust to a lower calorie intake in a safe manner and also exercise, that will make you feel better/look better and be more phyiscal to get around and do more things.
I don't think of counting calories as a diet, just a way of life and that has worked for me.
but I can't say it will work for others, because everyones different.
if a person eats every time they get hungry, how in the world would they lose weight that way?
I have always heard just the oppsite to keep your metabolisum up? is what your suppose to do, ''never skip meals ect,,ect,,''?so you wont be hungry?

well i did lose weight this way and i am still ,im not saying you have to excercise... i choose to.
if you eat when you are hungry and put on weight you are not listening to your body-im not knocking your opinion but i do disagree with it from my own experience, counting calories isnt natrual and didnt work for me,no one is hungry all the time.
i eat when im hungry and i eat what i want and stop when im full this is the natural design of the body, and i have lost over a stone!
what you eat isnt as importnat as how much you eat, while of course i agree eating well is important you dont have to do it all the time.
i dont eat junk food everytime im hungry-but i will eat what i want and that is often a mixture of fun foods and good foods if you like.
my metabolic rate is high because i eat when my body tells me to not at set times or when a doctor says i should eat, that to me has never made sense.
this to be has been the only thing that has ever made sense, and its so natrual and a healthy attitude towards food.
im living proof that it works and it has had great results for most, more than diets that are great in short-but not for life ( hence ost people put weight back on)
i do agree that for some people this may not work for people with serious food issues, addicts, emotional eaters may find they need extra help -theraphy maybe? but even then that is not a food issue that is something deeper.and even then that problem needs to be addressed and paula mckenna discusses that in his book/cd
my problem was boredom and its no longer a issue any more as i have trained my mind, broken that habbit.
im sorry you disagree with me and am glad you found something that works for you,as i have.:)

hi,
I'm not saying this method don't work for some people,
its just not right for me, If I eat this way it would be like having a set calorie intake every 2 hours of less than 200 calories per-say eveytime I got hungry based on an 8 to 10 hour day or daily calorie log of less than 2000 daily. and thats just to mantain my present weight...not loseing any!
I agree you can have the foods you want, as long as you keep them calories down...
((Do a experiment? if you dare?))
Tomorrow every time you get hungry and you eat something...count the calories in what it is you eat and be precise LOG EACH CALORIE DOWN..if you eat ''fun foods all day I'm interesed in what the calorie intake will be?..and be honest about it..no fugeing/cheating...k
I trust you.
I thank you do the right thing by helping other people/sharing the info ect,,ect,, just need to get that info right !

in the beginning i did count it at end of week and the calorie intake varied, and i was loseing weight.
i dont want to count cals this is what im not for at all, i want to trust my body and so far i have been right,i have eaten pizza, chips ect and veg and fruit and still the same my weight goes down.
you say about having a set way to eat like this,if i understand you correctly, but the point is there is no set wy,its just response to hunger and fullness.you may eat more often but you would eat less if that was the case as you eat till when you are full-if you eat loads and loads then i think you are not listening to your bodies natrual signals,it may be subtle but you do no when you are hungry and full.
i have eaten fun foods all day before choclate ect and still lost weight, because im only eating when im truely hungry im not having a problem.
how do you no you wont eat less than 2000 kals a day? -if you eat when you are hungry and eat what you want and stop when full i bet you would lose weight.
maybe read paul mckenna book.i had a friend who didnt believe me even though she saw the weight falling off me,untill she read it and did it herself.
its interesting you say its great im sharing but i need to get info right,i believe i have got it right and as i no im repeating myself but the proof is in the pudding-excuse the pun!!!

Hi,
I think we are not understanding each other?
what I mean about counting calories is you count each and ever calorie you put in your mouth and be precise with it as much as you can each day.
what I do I try to have a little mix of the nutrints our body needs to operate on (giving and burning fuel) I try to have my proteine, fiber, whole natural grains/wheat/veggies, under a counting calorie system that is not to hard to do or niether is it eazy to do, if you can count and read thats about all you need to do and of course watching the calories you put in your mouth.
when I was loseing weight I only consume about 1200 to 1400 calories daily, no more. I just wrote them down everyday in my little note pad and at night I calulated them as a daily count.
example
Breakfast ..about 300 calories, with low calorie foods, so I can have a little more to fill me up...use a little common sense!
Dinner bout the same sometimes 400 to 500 caloires.
Supper about 500 calories...and no more than that.
And I try to eat the ''good'' foods'' that are low in calories and have a good mix as to the nutrints.
BASED ON A DIET EATING JUST 1400 CALOIRES A DAY.
Now don't get me wrong, I am eating more calories than that now I eat 1800 calories daily to mantain my present weight.
At times if I wanted a treat that was a high calorie count like a piese of cake or candy ect,,ect,, I just saved my calorie count so I could have that with out going over my calorie intake for the day....I still do that to this day!
I even count fruits, agian common sense...small fruits and knowing what has high calories helps like a large bananna has a lot of calories vs a small apple ect,,ect,, this may seem hard to do but its actually pretty eazy. just read food labels and know your fruit calorie intake is mostly the main thing to know.
try to give yourself the foods that are good for you and low in calories, thats what I been doing this last year and I've lost over 75 lbs, and down to my correct weight.
and I'm more healthy and look and feel better...phyiscallly and mentally...well I'm not to sure on the mentally part...lol cause I've always been a CRAZY KIND OF GUY.
I DON'T LIKE TO PUT DOWN OTHERS ,I APOLOGIZE TO YOU IF I OFFENDED YOU?
if it works for you then thats great, I just don't understand eating like you say you do and you lose weight...that's all I disgree with.

eating as much as you want, no matter what it is or how much?...when you get hungry you eat if that means you eat 7 or 8 times a day, if you eat more calories than your body needs to operate on then common sense will tell you you will gain.
(usally)
''unless you mean when you get hungry your not actually eating but only taking bites of foods that are low calorie and not consuming all that much when you do get hungry? to satisfy your hungar? to me thats not actually eating! I guess thats my point.
thats all I can think of that will work as to what you say!
if you eat a lot of calories in a day you will not lose weight, normal logic will tell you, you will most likely to as not gain weight.

to be honest some days i eat more than others, but if yu eat when you are hungry you will not gain weight,i eat when i want now and stop when i full ,sometimes theres loads left on my plate, sometimes i go back for more.
yes i agree you will gain weight of course if you are eating weigh more than you are burning up but i really believe the body knows what it wants, sometimes i go gym, sometimes i dont and i still lose weight.i do eat whatever i want but im stopping whem im full, not full i cant move but comfortably content, not over eating.
i may eat 5-6 times a day sometimes only 2 x a day-but like i was saying i dont gain as im listening to my body and its wisdom. and i think im getting to a weight thats natrual for me as im still loseing very slowly,im a size 10 now -american size 6 i believe.
funny enough when i use to follow diets ei weight watchers,i would have 20 points a day to eat and sometimes eat only 16 and they lady said to me i was eating enough! but i wasnt hungry! so i thought forget this and thats when i came across the book.
i understand your sceptic about this most people are mainly as it doesnt seem hard enough to most-and its not.
i feel this is the natrual design of the body and well if i have dropped 2 dress sizes i must be doing something right eh?

Hi red 13,
Just wanted to say thank you for starting this thread. After reading your original post I went out and bought the Paul McKenna book and CD. I read the book last week and have been listening to the CD nearly everyday since last week. I know that Paul McKenna says that we shouldn't weigh ourselves for at least 2 weeks but I was curious. Last night I weighed myself and I have lost 4 pounds since starting his weight loss system last week. I must say that I have stopped overeating now and only eat when I am hungry and stop when I am full. I also eat each meal more slowly than before so get full quicker and stop eating.
Thanks for the great advice. I hope that I will continue to lose weight and that this week's weight loss of 4 pounds wasn't just a fluke.
Cheers!

Chevyman, i don't think you are hearing red. She eats when she is hungry, not bored, not lonely...........I haven't tried this method, but it does make absolute sense. You get hungry for a reason, your body is telling you time to eat. I need some energy. When you tune into your body and pay attention to the hungry signs and the satisfied signs, I can see how you can lose weight. Most of us sit down to eat at the time that dinner is ready, correct? We eat at social events, and while watching tv. Don't you think if you followed your body's hunger signs instead of eating at set times through out the day that you would lose weight? I don't think you should eat whatever you want in terms of junk and empty calories. however, if you added the veggies and fruits and all of the "good stuff" think about how much you could lose?
I'm giving it a try.
I'm giving it a try.
