I recently had un protected sex with someone i dont know that well and so im terrified i have an STD..I went to the doctor immediately afterward and they said I have gonnoreah and a UTI..im not that worried about the gonnoreah cuz its suppose to be very treatable. My hiv, herpes 1+2, siphillus adn chlamydia results all came back negative but I have to go back to get retested. The doctor told me to come back sometime in the next six months but I was planning on going back in three and agian in another three just to be safe. I was wondreing if there is any reason to go back sooner, how long i should wait to get retested for gonnoreah, and most importantly if theres a higher chance of me having another STD because I have gonnoreah, If people who carry one usually carry more than one or only one? How worried should I be? How soon is it usually before a more serious STD like herpes or HIV would be detectable..how much reliefe should I get from my neg. test?If anyone could help me to answer these questions ive been freaking out the last couple a days. Thanks so much - ash

Okay, I don't think I can answer all of your questions, but I'll try and do what I can until somebody with more knowledge replies to you!

I'm not too sure about getting retested for the gonnoreah, as I've never had it. I have however, had chlamydia before, which is treated in basically the same way with a weeks course of antibiotics. After the treatment is done, that's it, and you don't have to get tested again. I'm actually on antibiotics at the moment for a chest infection, and they're actually the same kind that treat gonnoreah. By what I've read on the instructions, only a very short course is needed to treat it.

HIV is generally detectable at 3 months after the encounter. If you were to get tested at that stage, the result would be very reliable. In some cases it can take up to 6 months, and rarely even up to a year for the antibodies to show up in tests, but that's very unlikely. If I were you, I'd get tested at 3 months. If the results are negative, breathe a sigh of relief and rest assured in the knowledge that it's a very reliable result. If you're still concerned, just go back and get tested again at 6 months or a year, just to eliminate the small possibility of it being a false result.

How much relief should you get from testing negative? Well, as much as you can possibly get!

Again, I'm sorry I can't answer all of your questions. There are people on here who know a lot more than me and I hope they can help you more!

Hello Ashley :)

Ashly I will give you an honest answer as best I can .
Whe you have any unprotected sex with a person of unknown status it leaves you open for just about everything and anything in regards to getting an STD .
You're best defense to protect youreself is to use condoms all the time and if you're partner refuses to use them then they have no respect or rite to even touching you . Condoms are very effective against hiv and many other forms of std's but also anyone that is sexualy active should be screened at least every 6 months to a year for all std's and also including an hiv test .
Now as far as hiv testing goes to be honest you had unprotected vaginal sex which warrant testing at 3 months ( which has an accuracy of 97% ) but as I tell most people ALWAYS get a follow up at 6 months just to make sure and also put it out of you're mind once and for all .
Now remember that you are in what is called the WINDOW PERIOD which means this the time when the body needs time to generate enough antibodies to the virus and most people that have a normal functioning immune system ( meaning no drug use or immune disorders ) will have detectable antibodies BUT if you have any other unprotected sexual encounters during the window period that will start it all over again and you will need to test in the apropriat times from that last encounter .
So protect youreself by using protection and stay safe ;)
