With a ferritin of 5 and hemoglobin of 10, can you "overdose" on iron supplements?? I am taking 2 different types of iron (sometimes three when I take a ferrous sulfphate pill once in a while). I am taking 2 Solgars chelated capsules once a day with 25 mg of iron, and 2 liquid liver extract/fraction with 1,100 mg three times a day - this also has 2 mg or "iron". I'm trying to build my levels back up quickly. Anyone have any information on this?
Thanks

DEFINITELY contact your doctor and pharmacist about this. In answer to your question YES you can overdose on iron. Your body can only process so much of it at a time. Iron poisoning has been known to kill children, hence the warning on the labels! :blob_fire
I will contact someone to get the correct info. I know that you can take more iron than your body needs, when your body has enough iron to begin with. If you are severly low on iron, I don't see how you can get the iron poisoning that the labels warn against when there isn't an iron overload in a case of severe anemia...........but, I'm not an expert and will make sure if what I am taking is safe.
Thanks for the post.

I can't answer your question but how are you liking the Solgar's Chelated Iron? A friend purchased this for me because it is supposed to be the most absorbable type of iron and easy on the stomach. Have you been okay with it?
Christine
The Solgars Iron seems to be less constipating than the regular Ferrous iron pills I have taken. The constipation is the only side effect that bothered me with other iron.
