Hi all,
My husband was just diagnosised with acid reflux and a pretty bad case of it. My question is could acid reflux cause an EKG to be abnormal? Our GP has made an appointmet with a heart dr. for my husband. Dr. says it's nothing to be concerned about. If so, why see a heart dr? Thanks for the input.

I was also sent to a Heart Doctor. Had the ultra scan done and EKG, was told it was normal practice to do these tests. Nothing wrong with my Heart.

Bad acid reflux and a tachycardia seem to frequently go hand in hand. But it's a chicken and the egg problem. I'm guessing that the acid reflux leads to the tachy.

superchef and aswander,
Thanks for your input. It is good to know that he's not the only one. I am surely hoping his heart is fine. Thanks again.

Hi Brenwill,

Kind of in the same boat....abnormal EKG. I think its reflux. The clinic sent me to a heart center where did an echo thing, found some mitral valve stenosis...but I orginally went for heart palps. Why did your husband go to begin with? The doctor put me on Protonix and am wearing a heart monitor for 30 days. BUT I think what helped the heart palps the most was reading in the Menopause board (thought THAT was my problem too) to take magnesium for the palps...the first night I took it I got some relief and I have been taking it every night since. I dont know if that bad spell with the palps just run its course or the magnesium worked. I dont want to stop taking it to find out.

Hi Mileena,
My husband's symptoms when he went to the dr. were: Very bloated feeling,
shortness of breath, mild chest pain and very weak. He was given rx prilosec and a high blood pressure med and is feeling much better. He says he is not going to keep the appointment with the heart dr., that he is sure the acid reflux is the problem. Sure hope he is right. Hope your heart is fine, let us know how you are doing.
