I:angel: need advice: I would like to start waxing my legs because I get horrible ingrown hairs and the smooth feeling only lasts a couple hours.:dizzy:  My question is how long do my leg hairs need to be for waxing? And what brand do you guys recommend? I would truly appreciate any input. Thanks ladies

I am trying to create my own wax using sugar, lemon juice, and honey or water but I am having trouble finding a good way to cook it. I actually am starting a post about it. In the meantime I recommend using nair's roll-on wax. It makes applying the wax easier, and if you run out of waxing papers, just buy some muslin cloth from a fabric store and cut them up, its pretty cheap. I also bought an epliator and used to do my whole leg with it but now I wax whatever I can then whatever is left over I just epliate, because the epliator is just as painful but it takes longer, and I prefer to get as much done at once as possible. The epilator can work on pretty short hair but for wax the longer the easier. You just have to experiemnt.

Waxing will not reduce the in-growing hairs, if anything more will appear as the new hair is softer and has to fight through your skin. It's all about maintenance. Always ensure you moisturise, exfoliate your legs weekly and briskly dry with your towel. Your aim is to gently but effectively remove dead skin cells, making way for the new hair.
I currently use Skin Doctor's - 'Ingrow Go' for the odd stubborn one I get, and it does the trick. Why don't you try Body Shop's sugar wax, any mistakes it just washes off. Hope this helps.

When I was shaving my legs I discovered, quite by accident, that you can wash those waxing papers. It's just a sugar product, the strips are a percent rag, and do not fall apart when wet. The sugar wax washes off, along with the hairs, very easily. Just hang them to dry.

I've found lots of good wax recipes online before. Just Google it and you will probably find lots of results that are very similar.
I remember making it with sugar, honey, and lemon juice. Instead if cooking it on the stove, I found it a lot easier to just stick it in the microwave for maybe 30 seconds or so (can't remember, but a recipe should tell you how long to do it for)... than you have to stir, and heat it again for a certain amount of time.
To be honest, you can't always get it perfect, especially the first couple of times you make it. But eventually you'll get the hang of it.
It's pretty simple to use and effective if the measurements are correct. I can't remember how to make it anymore since I haven't done that in forever.
I still couldn't use it on legs though... it's wayyy too painful.

I used Nad's on my arms (fully grown hair) and it only removed a couple of hairs total! So I definitely don't recommend the regular Nads. I used it correctly and my skin was very red from pulling the strips repeatedly but they didn't get the job done. Now I shave my arms and I've been fine with that, but I am also concerned about my legs. I get cold easily so as soon as I get goosebumps, my legs aren't smooth anymore! It's very frustrating and I hope to get laser hair removal when I'm done with school and can afford it when I'm working full time.
Are those sugar waxes pretty strong? And are the wax strips the kind that DO need to be heated or not? I definitely want to give waxing a try!
Also, for ingrowns.. if you moisturize after every shower at LEAST (sometimes about twice a day instead) and exfoliate with a scrub once a week, AND rub your skin with the towel, should that be pretty good to prevent them? Also, when is the best time to use an exfoliating scrub after waxing without irritating it?

I read about Gigi wax on a thread and went out and bought some. I havent used it on my legs yet because I still think the roll-on is more appropriate for that but it is AWSOME for armpits and bikini. I hurt myself trying to use veets prewaxed strips on my armpits and it didnt even take all the hair off. Now that I got all of it off with Gigi I read that the epilator is good for keeping it up but let me tell you if you let too many hairs grow back you might as well let it grow out and wax it again.
