did anyone start drinking coffee because of having a ED? I have had my ED for many yrs. and i never drank coffee, but since my doc. now knows about my ED i have started to drink coffee. My doc seems to frown on drinking coffee, and i don't know or understand why. What is it with coffee and ED?

Some people with EDs get into taking excessive amounts of caffeine beilieving that it will speed up their metabolism. It does, but just barely and the side affects are definately not worth it. A cup probably won't hurt, but try to keep it limited. What is your eating disorder? Why did you decide to start drinking coffee in the first place?

Hi Codey,
I drink coffee and still have trouble with ED's. Some people drink it to try and curb their appetite all I found was that it helped with exercise if I was too tired. It can cause more problems with fluid retention than it is worth because it is so dehyrdrating. If in small amounts and you are drinking lots of water I find it helpful for exercise but not too often. I used to drink it constantly when I was bulimic so I think you might be right about a link here. The appetite effects seem for me to only cause more eating lator when it wears off and sometimes I even get hungrier.
Take care,
Mel

I started drinking coffee regularly when I jhad anorexia because I thought it would help my low blood pressure and low heart beat. Probably didn't but made me feel safer... weird huh? The bad thing is still now, years LATER, i feel uncomfortable if I don't drink coffee in the evening.
