Are you actually gaining FAT? That's an important distinction to make... the goal of "weight loss" is a giant fallacy. Losing weight is easy -- it's easy to shed water weight and muscle mass. The goal should be FAT LOSS. If you're gaining weight (muscle), but losing fat, then you're on the right track.

Also, don't be discouraged -- it's only been two weeks! I know it feels like forever, but did it take you two weeks to put the weight on? Probably not -- it probably took at least a few months, if not several years. Aim for 1 lb. of fat loss per week... it's better to lose 4 lbs. of fat per month, permanently, than say 10 lbs per months of mostly water and muscle, temporarily.

Get some skinfold calipers and a soft measuring tape to measure your body fat percentage, as well as inches gained/lost in waist, hips, bust etc. Body fat and inches -- not weight! -- are the numbers that matter.

Yep, always happens to me and a lot of other people I speak to. Very disheartening I know.

I think previously, if I cut back on calories I'd lose weight but it would be jumpstarted with water weightloss. When you exercise your muscles tend to hold onto water. I've heard that you will start to noticably drop pounds after around a month or so. If only I had the patience to wait that long!

Basically steer clear of the scales for a while.

Muscle weighs more than fat , so you really could be just gaining muscle mass. This means you are toning up !! Well done !!

the more out of shape you are the more likely you are to gain weight 1st. you can't lose weight if your body isn't strong enough to lose it. apparently, you're wasn't. it's trying to get some muscle so that it will be able to lose fat.

HI ! There r 2 possibilities .1st is that ur muscles are forming and as a result u r gaining weight .but this is a good sign .dont worry
2nd option which may be distressing is that you have cut down your calories to v low .u should have kept them to 1600 per day to keep your metabolism .so may b thats y u r gaining weight

Delacined,

Gaining 5 kg. (11 pounds) of either fat or muscle is IMPOSSIBLE over a 2 week period. What you are dealing with is water retention.

A gym causes fast weight gain by breaking down muscle that becomes temporarily inflamed and inflammatory muscle retains water...part of the reason for the great looking "pump" after a good workout.
Of course, a change in salt intake can do the same thing.

Be patient, as your muscle repairs itself all wil return to normal.

Rest assured, the dieting and extra exercise IS buring fat but it just might take a couple more weeks to start showing clearly on the scale.

I dont agree with ^. Muscle weighs more then fat. If you gain two pounds of muscle then you probally lost 4 pounds of fat to get that msucle. The muscle will take place of your fat and help burn the fat more. Also Im extremely overweight so I dont agree with you since I started two weeks ago to lose weight and my first week of exercise after no exercise in about a year I lost 7-1/2 pounds. So it is possible to lose weight and be extremely overweight the first week...

also, it is better to lose it slower. a lot of people who lose it fast also gain it back fast
