If going on 1200 calories a day and working out daily for about an hour or more per day, how long should it take to lose 10 pounds?
(Currently i am 138 pounds and 5'3")

Hi. When I started cutting calories and exercising daily, I lost 20 pounds in the first month ( I started at 170 pounds @ 5'3) . As long as you stick to a good diet and exercise plan then I think you will lose 10 pounds rather quickly.

Hi Smai
The rate of which a person loses weight is all down to their metabolism. Some have a fast metabolism thereofre will lose weight quickly whereas others may need a little bit more time.

samizzle,
At 1200 calories/day and not severely overweight, I think something like a pound a week might reasonably be expected...so put me down for 10 weeks! :D

What kind of diet are you guys using to lose the weight? I just signed up for a nutrition class to try to lose the 10 pounds I gained this year. I'm not overweight at all but I want to get back to how I was so my clothes don't get too small.
I'm trying not to do any of the fad diets, but trying to eat a lot more fruits and veggies and healthy carbs. I love sandwiches and wraps so I'm trying to make some healthy ones at home. I was eating lean cuisines and people told me to stop eating those since a lot of them have high sodium, which was why I probably wasn't losing weight.
I try to work out as much as I can.. and I enjoy it. Things have just been VERY busy lately and a lot of not so great things going on, but I hope I can get back on schedule and figure out something that works for me. I've just been so tired that I get discouraged!! Hopefully taking new vitamins will help with that as well.
If you all have any advice at all please post :) I used to take a dance class every day and it was GREAT. Now that I'm in college I can't take that anymore unless I can find one at like 10pm and skip my homework. My metabolism has just slowed down and I need to get it back up!

Turrrra - I'm in the same position as you! :p I am not over weight at all - i have a very muscular body - but i am looking to lose the 10 pounds just to look better and less bulky. Tell me how your nutrition class goes!
As for now I am just trying to eat less. I love sandwiches and wraps and i usually have one lunch and dinner, which i know isn't good but i feel like its healthier than other options!?

I would think sandwiches and wraps CAN be healthier depending on how you make them. I know some of them have like chicken strips in it. NOT GOOD! But I would imagine putting lots of veggies and lean sandwich meat would be okay. AND a healthier wrap or bread.
Yeah I kind of felt out of place in my nutrition class since a lot of the people were overweight or obese and I am in a healthy BMI range (5'4" 125 pounds) and I wear a small size clothing but I still have trouble maintaining the weight I want to be. I go today and they will take a look at what I've been eating and tell me what I need to change. Seems like most people there were actually eating LESS calories than we needed, just the wrong stuff. I had to eat under 1000 calories for a week to lose 5 pounds for a beach trip and I was so hungry! I don't want to have to do that again.
The thing they showed us that was helpful was a sheet of paper that showed how many servings typical foods are. Like a bagel can have 4 servings of carbs, so you get more servings than you realize. I had asked about this since I thought it was impossible to eat 6 servings of carbs AND all of the other food groups and still be a reasonable amount of calories.

For both lunch and dinner i usually get either chicken salad or tuna with lettuce, tomato, and mustardon a Kaiser roll. Having this twice a day for a meal probably is bad b/c im not getting a variety of nutrients but its one of the only things that appeal to me, and they really aren't that bad for you. How bad is lunch meat for you? I know thats not good for you but sometimes i get turkey.
Someone told me yesterday that he's trying to gain weight so for lunch he eats tuna with mustard. He said that mustard helps you gain weight. Is this true? It has no calories!
5'4" and 125 pounds is really good!! I am 5'3" and currently weigh 138...not so good. My ideal weight is between 120-125. I am tempted to go to my nutritionist at college although a part of me is embarassed to. So i am trying to find help online for now.

Hey-
I am 5'3 and weighed 144. I lost over ten pounds in right under 3 months by staying to a strict 1200-1500 calorie intake. I hit a horrible plateau after 3 months and lost nothing for about two weeks I would not move from 128. I then lowered my calories to 1000-1200 and the weight came flying off and I got down to 124-125. I am now maintaining and I eat around 1500 calories a day. Now I did this by counting every single thing that went into my mouth...no joke if I did not know how many calories were in something I did not eat it. I also went to bed in the beginning starving but the pay off was awesome in the end and my body adjusted to it. This worked for me and I dropped the weight in no time and I did it in a very healthy way. I ate whatever I wanted as long as I stayed under my calorie intake for the day. I probably had one cheat day a week and would eat up to 2000 calories. I hope this helps.

Tpagm............I lost 60 pounds doing what you did..........I eat 1500 calories a day, whatever will fit into that amount, and have to stop at 1500. I will not eat something if I cannot figure out the calories either. I will also plan ahead so I can have a certain food. I really found this works.
