Hi ive been on depo for 4 years now, although ive not had any problems on it, I do feel like I should give my body a break from it specially due to this bone density problem that it can cause.

My next shot is due in a few weeks.. thing is do I have to see the Dr about coming off of it or do I just not book an appointment and just carry on as usuall???

Also me and my partner need a new method of birth control and are not sure as to what to do.. I cant take the pill as I tried all the different types before the DR put me on depo as they made me feel sick, we are both not overly keen on condoms, I was looking at the cap and wondered if anyone on here uses it or if anyone has any suggestions??

Thanks

I was on Depo for 2 years. When I decided to stop it was because I wanted another child. So, I booked an appt with my gyno just to discuss that with him. I know you can just stop it though. You don't need to see your doctor to do that because there really isn't anything they need to do for you. However, I WOULD see a doctor to address bone density. You should have a bone density test done to see if your bones have been affected by your long use of Depo. Now, are you wanting to give your body a break from all bc for the time being, or just a break from the Depo due to bone density issues??? If you decide to give it a break in general, then I would pay close attention to your body. If you are no longer having periods, I would give it about 6 months and if your period doesn't return............see a doctor right away. I would also get advice from others on here as to whether you should jump right into another bc right away or wait. I had such a bad experience with Depo. It took 5 years for my period just to return and 9 years for it to become regular!

yes I am worried about the bone density so I do feel that I should come off of it as ive been on it for a long time, iam also not happy with my DR as she didnt tell me that there would be any side effects to this method of BC expecially bone density, so im annoyed about that.. but ive been fine on depo, no probs at all, i'll be sad in a way to come off of it because I used to suffer with really painfull periods so im not looking forward to that back at all, I cant take the normal pills either as they made me sick so im not really sure what to do concerning BC, I was looking into the cervical cap, need to do a bit more research on it really.. but other than that im not sure what to do?
