I have had very minor bouts with RLS over the years. In fact I didn't know what it was until I married my husband who has it very badly. In the past week I've had constant symptoms of various degrees that are driving me nuts. My other peri symptoms have dramatically increased in severity too. I've had liveable peri symptoms for about 2 years now. Please tell me this is a sign of it ending soon not the beginning of a new endurance test!

Are you having heavier than normal periods or are your normal periods, heavy?
Sometimes restless leg syndrome is related to ferritin level ( iron stores ) in the body. When I had iron deficiency anemia, I had RLS bigtime. My ferritin level was a 4 ( very low) even though my hemoglobin was a 10.1 ( not too anemic). Took Darvocet so I could sleep. When I got the iron level to a more acceptable range, the RLS went away. It also helped lessen flow when I had periods. I haven't had a period for about 8 months now, but did have heavy periods for peri for years. ( When I think of it, I had RLS off and on too)

I too had increased SX of RLS with Peri.

I'm now taking Requip which has helped 100%.

Good luck

I first got restless leg when I was pregnant with my daughter. Fast forward 18 years and bam it came back with a vengence. I now take requip after trying many other drugs and it works great. I beleive it started when my hormones started whacking out. I believe the two are connected.

This is interesting. I too have developed very minor RLS in the past year (have been having peri symptoms for a LONG time). I only have it occasionally, always at night. I was thinking it was related to eating sugar before bedtime (I love sweets!) I don't eat sweets very often, but it almost always seems to flair up if I do so in the evening before bedtime.

Anyway, I'm always borderline anemic, so I guess I should make sure I'm taking my extra iron (which I forget to do quite often).

I almost fell off my chair when I saw this post. I had RLS severely for several years. I had heard that anemia might aggravate it, and was diagnosed as being anemic at least twice during the last couple of years, so I began taking iron vitamins. I almost NEVER have RLS now. The curious thing about this thread is that it is about Menopause. I never, never, never connected RLS with menopause (or perimenopause), and now wonder if that's what caused it and why it is now gone. I am 54. I began having perimenopausal symptoms about 5-6 years ago I guess, and they lasted for about 3-4 years.

So IF RLS is related to menopause or perimenopause, and that's what was causing (or aggravating) mine, there would seem to be hope because I almost never have it now. And what a relief. No one who doesn't have it can understand how aggravating it is.

BTW, I have heard that caffeine can aggravate RLS too, so you might see about reducing or eliminating caffeine.

Thanks for an enlightening thread.

WOW! What an eye opener. I never had RLS until about 2 years ago when peri hit. Never thought it was part of all of the menopause thing. Didn't know what it was until I saw commercials and asked the doc. Since it is relatively mild case, he suggested that I drink 8 to 10 oz of Tonic water. It seems the quinnine in tonic water helps to relieve syptoms of RLS. It has helped a lot.
