I have been reading up on the reliability of Birth Control and most BC methods such as the pill, ring, shot ETC. are usually around 99 percent effective. I was wondering are those statistics with combined use of a condom, or is it without? Also, does anyone know if it's still as effective if the man ejaculates in you. Just always something I've been wondering....

Hi there
The statistics are individual to each method with accurate use, not including the addition of using condoms.
Yes,the effectiveness against pregnancy is the same if the man ejaculates. They do not protect against sexual transmitted infections though, so condoms are usually recommended as well.

To figure out the effectiveness of condoms and birth control, you mutliply the failure rate of each. So condom failure rate with perfect use is 3% (.03) and birth control failure rate with perfect use is about 1% (.01) -- so .01 X .03 = .0003 = .03% failure rate of condoms combined with hormonal birth control, which means the combined method would be 99.7% effective.

And, yes, birth control is still effective if he ejaculates inside you. Birth control inhibits ovulation and (may) change the environment of the uterus so that sperm cannot live there. So, if he were to finish inside you, there would be nothing to fertilize, in theory, because you are not ovulating.
