Hi I'm Mindy and I haven't been diagnosed yet, I actually just called my doctor for an appointment. I had Gestational Diabetes with my son who is now 14 weeks old. I was never tested after him to see if it went away, so I started to test myself last week. My fasting numbers are high, normally 120-140, and will drop to about 100 before it's time to eat, but my after meal numbers are fine. Can anyone help explain why this is? I'm just looking for a heads up on what the doctor will say. Also I haven't changed my eating habits, and I always have cookies/crackers/candy before bed. Thanks
Mindy

Cookies, crackers and candy before bed? No wonder your fasting numbers are high!
Since you've already had gestational diabetes, you are at greatly increased risk for T2 diabetes. The time to take preventative steps is NOW, not later! You need to get back to healthy eating and less snacking. It's possible that you're at a stage where you could control this by diet alone, especially since your numbers drop when you're more active in the morning and you're fine after regular meals.
It only takes two fasting blood glucose levels of 126+ to diagnose T2, so I'd guess you're already there, but probably at the very early stage. With proper diet and exercise, you may be able to avoid the necessity for medications for many more years.
