I went walking the other day. Had tennis shoes on that fit and when I took off my shoes that evening my two big toenails were blue and the nails on the toe next to the big toe were blue also. What would cause that? The other toes are just fine.
A friend suggested I call the doctor, but don't know what he would do.

Thanks for your time.

When you are walking or running, your toes have a tendency to rub on the inside of the shoes. If you are not used to walking/running, it can cause the nails to experience hematoma, hence the black color of the nails. The nail bed released a large amount of blood due to the trauma and is now trapped between the nail bed and the nail plate.

This should go away on it's own then right? It's really nothing to worry about. Thanks for answering my question.
