Can you give a bit more information on what operations you had? Are they related to your bowel obstruction?

Hi, the obstructions are caused by adheasons (?) and the previous ops are as follows (was out of it a lot of the time but here goes):-

1994 ulser, due to air present under diaphram
1995 insisenal hernia
1996 hernia over the mesh
1997 larger repair due to hernia over mesh again
1997 infection in the mesh causing infection, op to remove 50% of mesh
1997 infection not under control, all of mesh removed
1997 infected tissue removed
1997 infected tissue removed
1997 infected tissue removed
1997 infected tissue removed
1997 infected tissue removed
1998 infection burst thru abdominal wall leaving fistula
1998 large amout of bowel removed due to infection, wound left open and cleaned daily with peroxide and salt water
fistula grew to size of a grape fruit, clostomy bag worn and hickman like fitter for direct feeding into blood stream, nil by mouth
1999 (thats right, a year nil by mouthand with a fistula on my abdomen) refered to hope hospital salford and major op to close wound and seal bowel
2004 op to tidy deep scar (unsucessful)

present day, unable to work, very bad pain when I eat, mayor problems with bowel movements, not feelin to happy!!!

this is it but know i have missed some out as the total operations are 20

Sorry about all of your problems but Sharon who lives in the UK is in the Hospital again-- she had major intestinal surgery a month ago for Crohn's disease problems and is still have problems.

The Healthcare System in the UK is not very good according to some messages I have read on these boards!!

I wish I could help ~~~Harry

Hi Strenght

Have you considered switching hospitals????

I was under Wigan hopsital for alot of my care before i found out what was wrong with me and they were poor, they refused to operate on me, instead they just wanted to sit back whilst i my condition got badly worse. All my problems were getting worse the longer i was under the care of wigan hospital.

I transferred all my care to Warrington Hospital and they have been fantastic!!! My surgical team specialise in Bowel surgery, my gastro doctor has been fantastic and after i had my surgery i was told that no medication would have sorted my problem out, i really needed the operation. They warned me of the risks involved, put me on the urgent list, this was mid July and i was operated on the beginning of Spetember. Now considering the nhs waiting list this was good going. At the short time from trnasferring across to them i found out what was wrong with me, tried different meds and got my surgery.

Also, the gastro doctor and the surgeon really listened to my problems and genuinely done their best for me. Also the staff on the ward were fantastic.

Maybe look around and try and get a better hospital, or if you are willing to travel i can give you the name of my surgeon and gastro doctor and ask to get transferred there????

I am still having problems but no fault of this hospital, the problems stem from when i under the care of wigan.
