Hi,

I had my port removed about a week and a half ago as it was infected. I take my last of a 10 day cycle of Levaquin 500 today. The steri strips peeled off about two days ago... yesterday I started itching all around the area - also there seems to be so much scar tissue that the "lump" under the scar seems bigger then when I had an actual port under there...

Is this normal healing, or is it a sign that the infection is not getting any better??

Thanks,
Cats

Cats,

I had my port removed earlier this year (May). I swear it took longer to heal this time then when I had it inserted 2 yrs ago. I believe itchy can be a sign of healing (or if REALLY itchy, an allergic reaction). I would say a lump is normal, I had a few at my site for awhile also. My scar looks worse there today, then when I had the port in. I'm hoping with time it will calm down. I found my site to be tender for MONTHS following the removal. The medicine you are taking could be causing your yeast infection.

Will you be seeing the doctor for follow up? I would give it a bit more time, I believe that site/area has been abused and just needs some time to heal.

Cats:
A lump is normal... A BIG LUMP that is getting bigger is NOT. Especially if it is hot to the touch, this is an indication of an infection as a possible "puss pocket" is "brewing" in the empty space beneath. (I hate to be disgusting, BUT, I think we have ALL been through worse!!!) If this is the case, call your doctor right away.

Otherwise, itching, even what may seem severe is a sign of healing. You may want to alternate applications of moist heat and ice.

Good luck and keep us posted.:)

Fondly,
CancerDad:angel:
