Bariliantbrunet 10-05-2006, 08:53 AM How long after starting the pill, if you decide to have unprotected sex, are you 99% protected from getting pregnant? kittywitty 10-05-2006, 11:42 AM The instructions that came with your pills should expain it. Basically, if you start the pill the first day of your period, you're protected right away. However, if you start taking it the Sunday after your period starts, then you have to use backup for the first 7 days and after that you should be protected. This is, of course, assuming you're taking them correctly, every day and on time. Bariliantbrunet 10-05-2006, 04:12 PM Ok well heres the deal. Ive been on the pill for 3 days now and last night me and my significant other didnt use protection. I had my last period ending on monday and it is now thursday. Is there a chance I could be pregnant? kittywitty 10-05-2006, 06:52 PM So, you started the pill on Monday?? Josh Mann 10-05-2006, 07:23 PM Hi there, The missus and I where told 2 weeks by the GP Cheers Josh kittywitty 10-06-2006, 01:48 AM Some doctors say 2 weeks, some say a month, they all have different opinions about it. It really depends on what point in your cycle you started the pills. The instructions state that if you start taking them the Sunday after your period starts (and it sounds like you did), then you MUST use backup for the first week otherwise you could get pregnant. So, to answer your question: If you miss your next period, then yes, you could be pregnant and, therefore, should take a pregnancy test. Bariliantbrunet 10-06-2006, 07:54 AM No I started the pill on Tuesday kittywitty 10-06-2006, 11:43 AM When I was on the pill, I always started it the Sunday after my period started (but usually by then I had stopped bleeding anyway). I'd say consult your doctor on this. kittywitty 10-06-2006, 11:43 AM When I was on the pill, I always started it the Sunday after my period started (but usually by then I stopped bleeding anyway). I'd say consult your doctor on this. (Whoops, sorry for the double post) ClevelandGal72 10-15-2006, 11:43 PM Hi, I encourage you to CALL YOUR DOCTOR asap and ask. When I started the BC pill, my doctor advised me to use back-up birth control for the first THREE pill packs. Good luck to you and I hope everything works out okay. Bariliantbrunet 10-17-2006, 09:06 AM Well I took a pregnancy test last night and it came back negative, but Im not supposed to start my period for 9 more days. Could this test be inaccurate? Is ther still a chance that I could be pregnant? smallgingerone 10-17-2006, 09:55 AM Hi, You won't get an accurate result until the day you are due your period or after that day. Some pregnancy tests say they can test up to four days prior to your period being due but they are not as accurate that far in advance. I would wait until you are due and then test again. Just to agree with some of the other people on this board I was always told to start the pill on the first day of my period to be protected straight away. If it is started on any other day of the month you have to use back up for 7 days. I think the Sunday Start is an American thing. Hope that helps. Good luck with the next test. |
