Hi Everyone!

Hope everyone is having a low pain day. I need some advice, again!

I am prescribed the Duragesic Patches for pain. I have been having a hard time keeping them on lately. I live in Florida and between the heat and the humidity the patches are NOT sticking to my skin.

I am completely out of patches and due to pick up my new Rx on Monday. I have tried everything to keep them on. I have the Bioclusive Coverings and also Tegaderm, but none has helped. I am thinking about super glueing them to my arm (just kidding).

If anyone has any advice or words of encouragement I would greatly appreciate it. I am getting very scared of going through withdrawals. My doctor refuses to let me try something else or prescribe breakthrough meds.

Take care,
Cpapp31

Have the excat same issue i have an appointment with my pm next week i will see what he says about this.
Texas gets really hot to and with the humdity sweating is an issue that doesn't help much
Just saw the rest of your message any chance you have an oppertunity to see someone else that may work with you and or be more flexable?

Hi Cp

I had the same problem with Duragesic and Sandoz patches. I would tape the patch with micropore tape place the Bioclusive over it (you do know you can get it free from the mfr?), then tape the Bioclusive on. They still didn't stick. I was able to get a one month refund from the Duragesic mfr. I was told that approx. 5-10% of patients will have our problem.

Quite by accident I got MYLAN brand generic patches and Praise Be! These suckers stick!!! So now my PM Dr puts on my script that I need the Mylan Brand...

They seem to work as well, and even if they don't, I'm not losing them every other day.

Good Luck!

Hi Cpap, I haven't used this trick myself by have read about it from folks that use multipl;e 100's and have a tough time with adhesion. If you clean the area like your normally would, the trick is to spray one of the steroidal sprays like caldacort or one of the steroidal nose sprays on the area prior to applying the patch, the spray leaves a slight tackiness that helps with adhesion but doesn't prevent absorption, maybe that's what the tegaderm is, but it's worth a try as I've met dozens of folks over the years the use this method along with extra tape and the dressings. Also having someone else apply them so you do have to twist or lift your arm up so you can see what your doing, as soon as you drop your arm dback down you start of with a crease, that was something I noticed when I gave duragesic a shot.

Adhesion is a common problem so try anything and everything that works for others, It's not going to get cooler or less humid in the summer so you pretty much need to find a resolution now before the things start sliding off in a matter of hours when it's 95 degrees and 95% huidity.

Good luck, Dave

Hi Everyone!

Thank you sooooo much for the great advice! I called my doctor to explain the problems I was having, he is letting pick up my Rx today instead of waiting until Monday! Yehhhhh!

I am so excited. I have been saving the ones that don't stick and I will bring them today when I pick up my Rx. He didn't ask for them, but I wanted to cover my butt just in case.

Thanks again!
Gentle Hugs,
Cpapp31

If you are using the Duragesic brand they will refund your copay one time...it is worth a phone call.

Also, I turned another fentynal patch user on to the Mylan brand, and they are having good luck with that brand too.

Good Luck!

Maria
