Hi Belinda. Sorry for your frustration so far, I understand how it can be when you're going through something and can't get a straight answer.

Perhaps if you can provide a little more history on your situation I could give a little more feedback on your situation?

I only know you have some raised blood levels and have been on Paxil at the moment and that's it. If your liver and pancreas look good, that's a positive sign. However, a sonogram isn't the be all and end all of tests and other things can happen with your liver to cause irregularities in bloodwork, that may not show inflamation.

What else could what be? What has you so worried that there's a problem with your liver? Even though test come back normal?

Let me update you guys....Been on paxil for 10 years. Had blood work done, and my liver counts are up. Had the sonogram done a few weeks ago, and the results came back normal looking.

Can Paxil raise your liver count and what else could it be if my sonogram came back normal and looking good?

Hello Danial,
Just went in for a physical a few months ago, and my blood work came back that my liver count was up. Thats all i know. so the doctor suggested that i get a sonogram. Well that was normal looking.

Keep in mind that an ultra sound or sonogram is not the tell all be all in defining liver damage. You may also need a CT scan or biopsy if the elevated liver enzymes persist. Many things effect the liver and almost all drugs are processed by the liver. Is Paxil the main cause of your elevated liver tests? Probably not. But other things like cholesterol and drinking can effect the liver...even Tylenol can cause liver damage. You may want to have your doctor refer you to a hepatologist (liver specialist) to know for sure.

Hi Belinda, thanks for the update.

Okay, I've done a little research on Paxil and it has been linked in the past with liver and kidney issues. Mind you, these often relate to over dosing of the drug, rather than an extended period of use. That said, it would not surprise me at all to note raised levels with extended use of Paxil and as such, I would definitely seek medical advice.

A sonogram can definitely pick up liver inflamation, but a more definitive diagnosis will come from blood work, a CT/MRI scan and if necessary, a biopsy of the liver. You really need to get a referral to a specialist who can order these tests and give you educated feedback on the results.

As kmacdona has already mentioned, many different drugs can and do affect your liver and it's always best to have any perscription medication closely monitored by your health care provider to avoid unwanted complications.

Best wishes and good luck
