I am one week post-op for hammertoe surgery. Does anyone know about applying heat to the foot to help the blood flow? My foot often feels very feels cold.

Your doctor may not want you applying direct heat to your foot after surgery, remember that the nerves have been cut so sensation is decreased and could lead to a burn. I think you could safely wear thick socks that are not tight and without elastic at the top.

I don't think heat is usually recommended that soon after surgery. Heat increases blood flow and swelling... so a week out may be too soon to apply heat as you would be increasing your post-op swelling. I would ask your Dr. about the foot feeling cold, I'm a week out from a bunionectomy and my foot hasn't felt cold at all, in fact, the ice feels good.

I just had hammer toe surgery a few days ago I was told only to use ice.
Hope this helps and that you are feeling better soon!
