I'm hoping y'all can spread some light on my situation until I can get in to see the dr. (Yes I'm from the South, can y'all tell? :D ).
For a while now, like 3 years, I've had an enlarged thyroid but nothing in my bloodwork points to a problem with my thyroid (though it does run HEAVILY in my family). So anyways, I recently went through all of the bloodwork and and u/s to rule out thyroid problems. I was having a whole list of symptoms that led me to believe thyroid but now a friend (a nurse) suggested I see a dr because it sounds like it could be diabetes. So here's my symptoms:
-shaking (internal trembling, hands are very unsteady)
-constantly thirsty (can't seem to get enough water)
-Have to pee all the time (I mean literally like every half hour)
-Constantly hungry (I seem to need to eat every two hours but fill up fast when I do eat)
-Tired (then again I have 2 little boys...)
-Too much sugar (like in soda or something like that) makes me nauseous.
-Can't seem to lose any weight (even though I've tried a very good low-cal, low-carb, high protein diet with regular exercise thrown in)
-Migraines (though I attribute a lot of these to my sinuses...which I'm seeing an ENT about to have surgery on)
-Heart palps and increased pulse rate at times
Does anyone make anything of that, or am I being a hypochondriac? I can't get in to see my GP for a few more weeks to be tested and see if it's diabetes, or somethind else. I appreciate any and all thoughts and advice!!

Hi, I do agree with your friend it really does sound like diabetes. Before I was diagnosed I had all those symptoms. Please see a doctor as soon as possible so he can give you the proper tests to determine what this actually is. Best of luck to you and keep us posted.

Jenny needs help not criticism. The last two posts were depressing to her, I am sure. We do not always know how to put our words right. I know I am not an expert in grammer. We need to help each other.
In fact, I had the same the problem for years. The doctors kept testing me for thyroid problems and the tests all came out that I did not have thyroid problem. After years of this, they finally tested me for diabetes. It was diabetes instead of a thyroid problem. A lot of times doctors can misdiagnose problems.

Sounds like diabetes to me and it sounds like a possible beginning of a diabetic crisis with that water intake, however I'm puzzled by the lack of any recent weight loss. I would think pituitary and also environmental factors such as carbon monoxide in home and vehicle, but diabetes would be first thought.

Hello-
I have alot of the same symptoms as you. I have an enlarged thyroid as well but I have been dx. with graves disease. I was going to ask some questions on this board (usually on the thyroid board) because I am having a full blood panel done but after reading the 2nd response to this post I no longer wish to. When someone is looking for answers (which dr.s aren't always accurate) even just a heads up to their condition personal attacks are not helpful. Especially when the person is new to something!!!!

I agree that it sounds like diabetes.... and, if you are able to control your sugars well, most of these symptoms will disappear, if indeed it is diabetes causing them.
Additionally, you will find it a lot easier to lose weight when your sugars are well-controlled. Which, in turn, will make it easier to control your sugars. Insulin resistance itself causes the cells in your body to not adequately absorb the nourishment they would otherwise get... this makes you hungry, even though you have eaten recently. There are some oral medications which can help with this.
If you cannot get to your doctor, you can get an inexpensive blood sugar monitor from a drug store. No prescription is required for it. Measure your sugar according to the instructions with the meter over several days when you are in the "fasting" condition (not having food for about 8 hours).... you don't have to do it every day, every other day is fine - many of the meters will show you the average, if yours doesn't, you can calculate it yourself if you just write down a few of the results.
A "good" blood sugar is from 80-120 mg/dl when fasting.
For many years, I was able to control my sugars quite effectively with diet alone, and required no medication. Over the years, however, I have progressed to needing insulin.... but I am on a pretty low dose, even yet.
