I've been taking Levlen (Levora) for birth control for approximately 5 years. I've had really no problems on it the whole time...EXCEPT moderate/severe acne, which does not respond to normal treatments (such as creams, etc.). The acne is pretty bad and has left me with lots of scars and a very low self-esteem. I had an appointment with my OB/GYN last week, and as I wanted to get rid of the acne side effect, asked him to switch my pill. (Apparently Levlen has a high androgen potency that can cause moderate hormonal acne.) Anyways, he gave me samples of Ortho Tri-Cyclen LO. I've read the Ortho Tri-Cyclen is recommended for acne control, so LO should have the same effect (he says). But here's my question/problem: Does anyone have any information regarding the effectiveness of LO? I've read some places that it has a higher failure rate that regular pills. I haven't started the new pills yet, until I get more information. Thanks in advance for any advice!

According to the manufacturer's of Ortho TriCyclen Lo, the product is 99.9% effective in avoiding pregnancy, just like all other pills. If not taken properly, the failure rate will increase.
