View Full Version : Irregular heart beat

I am about to turn 21 and up until a few years ago never had any medical problems. Then I noticed that I would get winded easier than I used to. I went for a physical last year and the doctor found I had an irregular heartbeat. Apparantly the top half of my heart is beating faster than the bottom, which would explain why it took me longer to catch my breath after sprinting. However, as the months have gone by, I've been having some tightness in my chest. It didn't really hurt, it was just an annoyance. Recently though, without performing any physical activity, I've noticed my heart would start beating harder, but not faster. I become very aware of my heartbeat. Then I would get some minor tightness in my chest. Is this something I should see a specialist about, or is my regular doctor fine.

Another aspect to this is it's making me physically sick. I had only experienced the chest pains when I was playing sports or occasionally when I was performing extreme activities (I am a volunteer firefighter). Now that it's been happing without physical activity, I've started feeling very nervous/anxious about it. This in turn is putting my stomach into knots and I feel nauseos and don't want to eat. Is this normal?

Did the ECG show an irregular beat? If they saw that I'm surprised they didnt refer you to a cardiologist or have some extra tests. Maybe go back to your GP and say your symptoms and ask if you need any further tests done! The chest tightness could eb anything from asthma to angina pain...I think you need to get some further testing.!

Hope you get better soon!

Thanks Dancer Cat.

The test did show the irregular heart beat. I assumed it was nothing serious because it was for the fire department, and if he gave me the okay to continue to actively participate it was probably minor. Now I'm not so sure.

It could be minor, but I think you should still check it out and explain where the test was done and that it showed an irregular heart beat. It might not be serious, but still worth looking abit into considering your other symptoms!
