Wondering about the actual side effects of this particular beta blocker. I am a former Atenenolol taker who just couldn't take it and my doctor, a while back mentioned Propranolol. Leary of any bp medication I am started to rethink my position. My heart rate runs between 80 to 90 and sometimes, not often, a little higher, but usually not over 100. Can a heart rate in this vicinity cause problems down the road as I don't want to medicate if I don't have to. There are times that my b/p is elevated, but that could be maybe three readings during the week. I am wondering if this is worth my starting b/p meds again. I hate asking the dr's b/c they are notorious for giving us every damn pill their drug representatives leave them. I am also finding out the doctors really no nothing about side effects since, while I was miserable on Atenolol my doctor's comment was "Hey, I'm taking it and I'm fine" thereby telling me I'm nuts and I should have no side effects because HE doesn't. Can you believe that. I guess, after reading some posts here, you can believe that. So back to the question - what do you think about Propranolol, other than it being short acting. Does it cause the same side effects are most betas?

Same side effects, from my experience, except that the short acting nature of propanolol made it less useful for heart rate control which is why I needed it in the first place. Both drugs had very little effect on my BP.
