View Full Version : Random thoughts on OCD

Hey guys,
I just wanted to share some of my thoguhts, and what helps me. I find that my anorexia gets the worst when I have nothing to do, and all I can do is think about are two things, food, and weight. Well that sucks, so I find that when I am able to divert my attention to something be it school, art, reading or whatever, my mind leaves ED mode and focuses on something else. I think that OCD is a double edged sword. Having OCD can be horrible when you can't stop obsessing about food, weight, people, or whatever. But for me, if I can focus my obsessive behavior to something positive I can accomplish a great deal. For example, Instead of focusing on not eating, I can completely engross myself in studying chemistry or some other school subject, and just study for hours, absorbing everything, and this results in excellent grades, which makes me happy, educated, makes my parents happy, and more importantly allows me to temporarily leave my ED thoughts behind. I think people with OCD can be SUPER people if they can focus on the right things. This is what helps me, maybe it can help some of you too http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Good luck!!

I was just thinking today that I wish I had some sort of hobby or something to occupy my time. I'm home at 4pm and probably go to bed around 9ish so that leaves 5 hours or more to try and not eat and think about not eating, I need something to occupy my thoughts. The problem is I am taking a course but unfortunately I'm not like you where it focuses me more, I find that I can't concentrate on my work because my mind keeps staying on the same thoughts like a broken record. I need to find something I enjoy so that I just think about that.

My schoolwork was just an example of what interests me. I can't focus on things im not interested in either. What interests you? What makes you happy? Music, writing, drawing, knitting, reading, just anything you like to do. Also, you can try new things, maybe youll like something youve never tried before. Try to find something thats vast and interesting enough to occupy plenty of time. I know those long periods of having nothing to do, they make me crazy, sometimes ill just go driving around, look in the music store, go visit a friend who is completely out of the way, just anything to keep my mind off my ED! Good luck! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

I love to cook, which isn't really the best hobby for someone with an ED, but I really enjoy myself and as wierd as it sounds stop thinking about eating and enjoy preparing fancy dinner and having people over to entertain for the evening
