Hi, if you are talking about the endoscope don't be scared. I was scared out of my MIND. I even went in to the room crying. :dizzy: They put you out and you don't remember a thing! Hopefully your experience will be like mine and many many others. Do you know what they are using to knock you out? I was given versed and something else. Versed is great!

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thanks for replying Carisa

I don't know what they are using all i know the doc said I would not remember a thing.

I am not scared of the procedure itself just of what they will find.

Why were you scoped and what were your results

Hi there. I am having an endoscopy Friday and I'm really not nervous at all. I had a colonoscopy earlier this year so I figure if I can get through that, then I can get through this one. I am having the procedure because I am having reflux and chest pain (that is supposedly not cardiac related). How about you?

I am having swallowing issues food sticks to back of throat. I have never really felt heartburn only occassionally. The doc does not seemed conderend about it but I am petrified. I have never had anything invasive like that done.

I am a worry wort and always think the worse case scenario. My 51 year old sis was DX with Barretts in May so of course I am stressed out about that. Doc told me he does not usually see it in women. Well whatever, my sis got it so obviously women do get it......I just wish it was 24 hours from now so this whole thing would be over. I am having such a hard time concentrating at work so this is going to end up being a useless day.

Thanks for your reply....

I got the endoscocpy done becasue I have had a constant stomach ache now for over three months. They were suspecting that I may have an ulcer or something like that. They didn't find any signs of acid reflux or any ulcers. They did however find that my lower esopheagal sphincter (LES valve) does not close. It remains open when it is supposed to only open when you swallow to let food into your stomach, then close again. I'm not sure what is next for me. Possibly more tests. They do not want my esophageas to get ruined from the acid coming up out of my stomach.

Let us know what they find with you. I'm curious.

Carisa Good luck!!

I am with you there! I worry about everything. I am 31 and have had so many tests it is ridiculous. I have horrible health anxiety. I do have some physical issues, which fuels the anxiety, which fuels the other problems. It is a vicious circle. I'm sure you'll be fine. It is good that you're getting the test just to make sure. If they do find anything, it can be treated. My doctor is very comprehensive and orders tests, unlike most docs who just put you on meds when they don't even know what is wrong. Let me know how it goes tomorrow - I am nervous about mine, but not near as nervous as I was for the colonoscopy. Try to relax tonight. I know that is much easier said than done. :D

Carisa,
When I had my endoscopy the results came back that they thought I had an ulcer but couldn't see any signs of it. The report didn't mention Acid reflux or anything about the les valve. Was your doctor specifically looking for all of those things during your scope. I just wonder why I still have problems sometimes plus I'm on Protonix and maybe for no reason?

Taape-

My doctor was not specifically looking for the open les valve. He was actually looking for ulcers or gastritis. I would assume that your dr. would have noticed that when he looked inside your stomach. You could still have acid reflux that they do not see. I have acid reflux from that valve being open, yet my dr. could see no signs that I actually had it except that my valve is open. He said there is no way I couldn't have it with it being open even though there are no signs of it yet. Eventually, there will probably be signs.

mskubic - How did your endoscopy go?

well I made it through the morning from hell.

Monday night before the exam I took half of a valium to help me sleep. Well I guess the half was not enough and I was up at 2:00 stressing about it. I finally managed to fall asleep at 4:00 and then up at 6:30 to go for the procedure. I was crying and everything especially after they called me to prep me for the exam. My husband was there holding my hand for the entire wait. After they inserted the IV it took them almost 40 minutes to actually wheel me in for the procedure. As soon as I saw the room I was in tears again telling the nurse that I know I have cancer etc. etc. The nurse inserted something into my nose to help me breath. She told me my lungs were great becasue they were performing at 100 % capacity. At that point I was thinking I am not hear for my lungs I am hear because swallowing is uncomfortable Well the doc came in and they gave me the happy juice and inserted the scope. I was basically awake for the whole thing but did not feel it. The doc found NO BARRETTS and NO CANCER. My esophagus and stomach looked completely normal. I am just confused as to how this can be considering all my symptoms and especially the diffiuclty in swallowing. I know what I have been dealing with for the past 3 1/2 years is not anxiety related it makes absolutely no sense to me.

But at least I can say is that I am ok and can now move on with my life.
Thanks for all your help and support.

I will continue to post because I know I will probably always have some issues and that I can help others in my situation. I suffer from severe health anxiety (aka hypochondriac)

I am so glad you got through the procedure and they didn't find anything. YEAH for you! When I went in for my colonoscopy I started crying as soon as they called my name. The nurses were really nice. I'm not too worried about my endoscopy since I'm having it done by the same doc that did the colonoscopy. But who knows, I could wake up Friday morning in a panic and I'm sure I probably will.

I'm a hypochondriac too! I am only 31 and have had more tests than my parents and even some older friends and family. However, I do have some physical problems, so it is hard to distinguish sometimes what is real and what isn't. Do you post on the anxiety board? There are a bunch of us hypochondriacs over there. You should come over sometime.

Again, I'm glad your procedure went well. Hopefully mine will too. :D

Little voice in my head "What if they missed something". With all these symptoms you would think they would of found something. Even if they had at least found an ulcer then I would no I am not a nut case:dizzy:

mscubic-I'm so glad you are ok. I can't believe you were awake for the whole thing. I would have been a wreck. I hope your swallowing gets easier. I have extreme health anxiety as well. I have had it all of my life. I am now 28 yrs old. Hypochondria is a NOT fun. Well, now you can have a better week now that it's all over!

Thanks Carissa

Actually I was so doped up that I was incapable of rationalazation or fear if that makes sense. I was in a complete stupor and it was the most wonderful feeling. They gave a combo of demerol and versed and once they stick you within 10 seconds this wonderful warmth embraces your body and like I said at that point they could of done whatever they wanted to me.....
