Hello
I had bunion surgery on July 5th, 2006. I have a popping sound in my foot when ever I walk. I can feel the bone popping or cracking. I also have significant pain in my foot still- as well as swelling. Does anyone know if these symptoms are normal 3 months after surgery?

Wow, that doesn't sound good at all IMO. Have you called your doctor or did she originally say it was healing properly?

It's pretty normal to get clicking/cracking/popping symptoms after surgery for a few weeks, but normally it settles down and gradually ceases.

If you're still getting these symptoms accompanied by swelling and pain, I'd ask your doctor just to be sure. These things take a long time to heal, months and months in fact to fully heal, so I wouldn't be too concerned at this stage, though it's always best to ask just to be on the safe side and put your mind at rest!

Thank you both for the replies! I do have an appointment with a new doctor next week. I lost confidence in my surgeon at my last visit. My biggest concern now is that my swelling is getting worse each day. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best!

Well, try to keep ice on it whenever possible, keep it elevated, take some Ibuprofen, and just be patient until your appointment.

Although, if it seems to get *really* bad, call up immediately and get it checked.

I had this same surgery on July 21, 2006. I also had 2 pins put in since my bones underneath were no longer straight. I have no popping at all. I do still swell a little occassionally but nothing bad. I notice stiffness in the morning after sleeping but I just work my toes and foot and it is fine. My doctor told me it would take me another 6 to 8 months to be completely back to normal. I would see a doctor if I was you. Good luck.
