I had my first bunionectomy in April and my second one in June.
Both my feet are so......large. Like two big puffy marshmallows.
I have worn pretty good shoes, but I have a professional job and tennis shoes just will not do. At home and on weekends i am in my sneakers or barefoot.
I am assuming this is the cause of the continues edema, and puffiness.
Today, the weather decided to quit being summer and turn cool. This is when i discovered that I absolutely, no way, cannot wear closed toed shoes. I have been in sandals and of course my Nike Air's with proper insoles, but today I had to go out and buy four pair of new shoes, all size 10. I normally wear 9 and have a million pair of cute size 8 shoes. I got some basic black, brown and a pair of ballet flats.
Does anyone know of a good and inexpensive dress shoe that will give me the foot support i need and still look nice with a suit or dress?
I just thought every day that the swelling would go down, and they are probably more swollen than ever. I have tried to wrap them in Coban and use my compression bandages, but this in on weekends, they do seem to get smaller, but as soon as I go a day without - the feet get puffy again.
Does anyone have any idea about how long the feet take to get back into normal shoes/ and these are just normal, not high heels...
Puffy feet, be gone
thanks gang,

alas, I gave up my cute shoes a long time ago! I did manage to get a nice pair of flats that looks somewhat professional- I cant remember the exact brand. I would try a lot of different shoes and remember that your foot will be more swollen at the end of the day! I also hate wearing shoes and the boot during work- it really looks aweful, but what can I do?

I have decided to go back and forth, until I get to my doctor for a follow up appointment. I got a great 3M product, Coban®. It is a self-adhesive bandage. I have a friend that works there and she got a whole box of rolls when they had a special employee sale. I got the skin tone and so, on days where I know I will not be seeing clients, I wrap my foot and skip heel and continue to wrap around ankle. Then, wear sneakers. I got some dark gray and navy blue ones, so they are not giant WHITE shoes, and are not as obvious from outer space! I keep my feet wrapped all day and then in the evening at bedtime, remove the wrap and throw it away. It is great because you can adjust how tight you want it and it adheres to itself, so you don't have to tuck the ends or use pins...
This has helped enough that I don't have to do it every day, only every other day. I just wondered if anyone else had a lengthy wait for their feet to get back to the same size. Even when they are not swollen, they just don't fit in my shoes the same way. I was used to the big toe going over to the center of my foot and now that they go straight, the old shoes just don't fit anymore.
i may have to get on ebay and start selling shoes. There is a very high end shoe store here in town, and they sell only comfort shoes but they are SOOO expensive. I am not sure what size my feet will end up being. I just never realized I couldn't wear my old shoes after my surgery. I thought the bone healing was the major issue in the healing process, not all this swelling and puffy feet.

I had a bunionectomy in feburary..and found that the tighter the shoes and sneakers were, the less swelling i had. you should be ok in another month or so. ask your doc about anti-inflamatory meds..they help with the swelling. also, im not sure where you live, but ,maybe leather boots would be a good idea now.

My problem is just the opposite...I had two bunionectomies and hammertoe surgeries in July and though my feet are still somewhat swollen, I now take a SMALLER size shoe than I did! I guess it is because of all the bone they had to remove from my toes; they are definitely shorter.

You might want to check out footsmart.com. They have some orthopedic shoes that are not too bad looking and are not outrageously expensive.

How do your smaller feet feel? I had 5 toes done on 10/12. straigtening of the big toe and removal of bone/pin placement in 4 toes. I'm not having a lot of pain. My Dr. told me to expect my foot to be a little shorter. How about pin removal? How did that feel?

I like Dunham's. They are made by New Balance. You can wear them with slacks but I don't know how they would look with skirts. They have a wide toe box and are very comfortable.
