Hello --
I had been taking Yasmin for about two years when I finally stopped this August due to all of the side effects (Migraines, no libido, nausea, motion sickness, depression, major mood-swings, weight gain, etc). which after reading some of your experiences I'm glad to know it wasn't just me. :)
My problem is that I still haven't gotten my period again since August. It's now four weeks late... I haven't engaged in sexual intercourse, so I know that I can't be pregnant, and I had heard that after stopping birth control your period could be a little screwy.
But is it normal for it to be this late?
I'm not particularly fond of my PCP, and I don't know how long I should wait for my period to return before going to see her.
Please help. Thanks in advance.

Hi Roisindubh
Ive also stoppped taking the pill. I was on the mini pill for 6 years. Ive stopped taking it a month ago. Ive always got my period every month on the pill and I was due to have my period 2 weeks after stopping it but did not get it. I did not even get any breakthrough bleeding from stopping the pill. I guess it just takes a few months for your body to get back to normal.

Hey!
I was on Yasmin too and I have the same problem.I was also on it for about two years so I know exactly what your going through. dont worry, my period has been almost two months late before! And even come two times in a month! I have been off the pill for a while now. almost a year, and it still hasnt returned to normal. I havent had my period since august 28. But I am not worried. I did go to my gyno and she said to be patient but it will definitley return to normal. Hang in there!

Thanks for the responses! I feel better now... :) I though at first I was pregnant and just about flipped out... my hair was getting really greasy, I have acne like never before...its weird. But its been long enough now that I know that it must just be coming off the pill.
Thing is that I was going to start a new birth control after my little break from it (nice of my doctor not to tell me that a month long break may not be possible), but since my period hasn't come back, I haven't started it yet.
Do you guys know if I have to wait for my period (thats what the instructions say, so I'm thinking yes...). I never had regular periods before birth control, and I kind of miss them.

You're among the many women who don't get their period back after quitting the pill. I am the only person I know who got mine back right away after quitting. Everyone else I've encountered online is still waiting for their period to come back, some say it takes between 6-12 months for it to return.
I quit the pill and don't intend to ever take it again. The side effects and horrible things it did to my body are not worth it. You are realizing now why it's such a powerful medication because you are experiencing side effects from quitting. There are side effects being on the pill and there are side effects from quitting. That's because it's not as safe of a drug as the medical community would have you believe.

whew, i started getting scared after just a few days late after stopping Yasmin. I was only on it for 5 months but I guess that was long enough for my body to get used to it.

Just realize that any strange things that happen after you quit are most likely withdrawal symptoms from quitting. But don't make that be a reason to go back on the pill. It's really better to choose a method that doesn't involve such a powerful drug that it causes so many problems.
