Hi everyone,

I, for the past two months, have been having a tremendous amout of trouble with exhauston. I am still able to walk but, it seems to tire me out so much these days I'm wondering if it is the neuropathy or is it something entirely different. When I say walk, I mean, walk around the house and into the back yard to sit down. I would appreciate your comments and any light that you can shed on this subject.

Thanks.

;) Hi,

Check the side effects of any med's you might be taking. You may have a reaction to them. I know my Dr. tried something new on me, "Ultram", and it took me 2 days to rid my self of the horrible side affects, breathing being one!

Hi CittyCat,

That was a good call on your part. I finally decided to, on my own, stop the 30 mg of Cymbalta that I had begun taking twice a day last Thursday. This is my first day off of it and, already my stomach symptoms are feeling much better. Somehow, it always surprises me how the side effects of some drugs really bothers me.

Marty, take a hard look at what you were 'doing' before and after your onset, and also when you started your meds and if any changes occurred then. One human instinct is to STAY STILL when you hurt, That is good in many ways, but, things happen to your body when you don't move! Your muscles waste, tendons shrink/tighten up and your circulation goes down the drain! You lose muscle tone and vibrancy as a result of non-use. As a result of inactivity, you are able to do less and less. Think about it! If it were me, I'd ask my docs for some Physical therapy to start to re-learn how to use yourself in a better, safer way. Build yourself up in little bitty increments, w/a good therapist, one your doc gives orders to give you the excercises and tools to do simple things at home,....well they add up! To a better and more safely moveable person. That is what we all want to be.

BTW, I've never had any doc, neuro or otherwise decline to write a script for PT within my plan...It took me a couple of tries to find the rite PT, but I found it, and got what I've needed to get stuff going and done.

Hope this helps you get going...to be still is not a good route...You'd be surprised at what you can do! Go surprise yourself...-j
PS let me know how it goes, aside from the 'new' aches?

Hi dahlek,

I found out what my problem was that was making me feel so tired. In the middle of August I caught the flu that stayed with me for about two weeks. A few weeks later I had a contracted a staph infection in my lungs. All this really drained me and I wasn't walking or exercising as much as I was used to doing. My pulmonologist gave me two doses of one antibiotic that didn't work and then gave me a second antibiotic that finally cleared it up. All that time the infection was dragging me down.

I agree with you completely that if you don't use your muscles, your muscles with become weaker and weaker. I've had P.T. and found it very helpful. One thing after another just knocked the wind out of me. I am again beginning my old exercise routine and hope to, with time, get back to where I was before I got sick in August.

Thanks for the recommendations. All of your suggestions are good ones.

Regards,
Marty:)
