Hi there!
This particular board is for eating disorders like anorexia, bulimia and compulsive over-eating. Some members have posted about their experiences with cutting, but as I mentioned, cutting isn't this board's primary focus.

I didn't see a message board on healthboards dedicated to cutting, but take a look at all of the major board topics and see if there is one that is close. I hope you find what you're looking for!

While this is not exactly the right board to post this type of message, I realize that it's difficult to find a better one. The truth is that there are always underlying reasons for self abuse. I am a somewhat recovered cutter myself and have learned a great deal about the topic since I've tried to stop. Cutting is a form of self-mutilation in which one cuts their skin as a way to relieve some internal pain. The self-abuse you describe is much the same. People usually hurt themselves in order to distract their mind and body from the hurt they feel inside. It can also be a form of self punishment for the way you are feeling. Self abuse is a serious condition, much like any compulsive disorder, and usually requires some professional attention in order to break the cycle. If you are feeling depressed and self destructive, i STRONGLY urge you seek help in the form of a doctor, counselor, or even an anonymous help hotline. Self abuse is very difficult to break by yourself and requires specific attention. Please talk to someone with professional experience! Trust me, I have found that life is much better without the abuse!

Please take care,
Beth

Hi,
I agree it's hard to find a board for this and many of us here can relate to the self punishment by denying or engorging in food and binging to avoid pain etc. I too urge you to seek help and talk to someone about this. I understand the feelings of wanting to hurt yourself yet the pain is the real issue and you need to talk about why. I do beat up on myself and fight the urge to do so and try to be kinder to myself. Often anger and pain gets turned inward without addressing the cause. Address the feelings first and seek help so you can understand why. This is something I do and find it helps alot to talk with a therapist who sees all types of self abuse. Take care

Who cares on whether this is the right board or not? I also used t struggle with SIing and slf multilation, alot of cutting mainly, and I know how hard it is to get people to understand or listen. I am always here if you need to talk.

I believe that any type of self harming, no matter what form it may take, is deadly and I do not wish this on anyone.

It doesnt matter if you're on the right board. SI a lot of times goes along with eating disorders anyway. The answer to your question is yes. I also used to punch, pinch and cut myself. I would leave big bruises everywhere and i have scars from cutting and burning.
