My husband went to the Dr. today because he has been so fatigued and not sleeping well, and he drinks a very large amount of water every day. The Dr. first did a finger stick on him and it was 143. He had eaten a bologna sandwich 2 hours before this. The Dr. wasn't too pleased with the numbers so he had my husband go to the lab and have some blood drawn. This was about 4 hours from the time we first got there. My husband's brother died from complications from diabetes several years ago. Should we be concerned about the numbers or just wait and see what the results of the blood tests are?

Just wait for the results of the blood tests. The diagnosis of diabetes requires more than a single data point - there are a lot of factors which can cause temporarily elevated blood sugar. Your doctor will use an appropriate diagnosis protocol before he makes any determination of diabetes.
I cannot speak for your doctor, but my guess is that he is going to get a reading on the hemoglobin a1c -
sugar "sticks" to the hemoglobin in the blood. This test will show your doctor what your husband's sugar levels have been over roughly the last 3 months, with the greater contribution coming from the 6-week period prior to the test. It is a much more reliable indicator of high sugars than one single chem stick.

Thanks for the reply. This is new for us, and we're still waiting for the call from his Dr.
