View Full Version : Hair, Hair Everywhere!

OK, girls. As embarassing as it is to share this, I have solid facial hair. Since neither electrolysis nor laser are an option at this point (financially), I have the following questions:

1. What methods do you use for your upper lip area and sideburns?
2. I have read some posts about Finishing Touch - but doen't it simply cut hair? I mean, doesn't it leave stubble and shadow (I am very pale with dar hair)?
3. If you use creams (they supposedly dissolve the hair under the surface of the skin), how long does the hair have to be? And then how do you cope to have it grow at a certain lenght without worrying about looking like a monkey... at least I would look like one if I didn't use certain... methods. Not very feminine menthods...

If you can't afford lasers, which is really the only way to go so start saving your pennies, you should be waxing. It will take the hair out by the root and eventually (and I mean no time soon) you'll start to see lighter and thinner hair because you are constantly damaging the root. Eventually those roots will be affected by the repeated assaults and you will see a reduction in the hair, but this takes years. None of the other options, except lasers, will even do that. Plus, you won't see the roots under the skin, until it grows back.

Thanks for the reply!

I like waxing. The only problem is that I have to let my hair grow so that I can wax it... I wonder how to women manage to wait so long and let their hair get long and go out in public. That's my concern.

Also,

is laser permanent?

Laser is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO permanent and worth your money if you have dark facial hair and you want that smooth look. It KILLS those roots PERMANENTLY so the 5 oclock shadow goes away forever. People can't believe how pale my underarms are now. It's because the root is no more. Any woman who is very hairy or very young, or just hates to shave, wax or pluck anything, should consider lasers. The money you spend is made up in time, razors, frustration and it makes you feel beautiful and finished, all the time. And quite frankly, we are all worth it.

I couldn't agree more. I am absolutely determined to use laser in the future. But for right now, I need a temporary solution.

About laser... What areas of your body did u use it for (if you don't mind sharing)? How many sessions did it take? How much did it cost?

I realize that these things are different for different ppl, but am trying to get some sort of an estimate before going in for consultation.

Actually I wasn't that hairy nor was my hair that dark, but I don't want to spend a minute more on my beauty regime then I have to. I won't do anything I can pay someone else to do. Besides, I just think everything looks better when a professional does it. LOL
I've had it done under my arms About 150 a pop or it might have been 100, 5 times
On my arms About same price, same number of treatments
The lower sideburn area where I had a small, light growth of hair, 3 treatments, threw it in for free
My eyebrows permanently shapped with lasers 2 treatments 100 first treatment 75 second one
Still working on my bikini area. Don't know yet. I bought a package along with the legs for a little over 1000
Still working on my legs too. This is my lightest hair. I think maybe 1 more treatment.
Keep in mind alot of these spas have sales through out the year. Many are having them now.
As for waxing, you know there must be some regrowth before the wax will adhere so you can pull it out again, there is no way around that. It was the one thing I hated about waxing.
I don't know if they still sell epilady. It's painful, but the regrowth doesn't need to be as long, the hair comes out by the roots and you can do it yourself........if you can stand the pain. :blob_fire

do you know the name of the laser machine they used on you that gave you such great results?

Sorry, I don't know. I've been to at least 3 different places. I purchase when and where I find a sale. I know my legs/bikini machine was older and really hasn't done a good job which is why I haven't finished them.

Everyone has face fuzz, though it definitely becomes more prominent as you get older. Then there are the [bad word] black hairs and white hairs that start to pop up.

If you're saying you have solid, dark facial hair, like a beard, you should see your doctor about a hormone imbalance. If you just have fuzz, I swear it looks 100 times worse to you than it does to anyone else. We tend to be looking at it right up close in the mirror, but if you're talking to someone they're at least a foot away, or more, and the hair isn't as noticeable.

I've used the cream removers and they are OK, but they tended to irritate my skin. Now I wax with Surgiwax Brazilian Bikini Wax. It is easy to use and gentle on the skin and the hair doesn't have to be real long. I have been known to shave in desperate situations, when I am going somewhere special and have forgotten to wax or have just run out of time. I read that it's not uncommon for models' faces to be shaved for close-up photo shoots and that it was OK to do as long as it was just once in a while. I feel like a total idiot when I do it, though.

For occasional use, there is also a product called "Tinkle", a kind of little mini shaver. It's about pencil length and the razor head is shaped like an eyebrow comb. I've seen them in beauty product stores. It's good for quick touchups on, say, the lipline.

I pretty much have to pluck daily for the thick black & white hairs, though I think the waxing has lessened the frequency of their appearances.

I have to say that facial hair really, really sucks! I come from a family where the men look like Yeti, so I guess I'm glad I don't look like one, too. Laser removal, even with financing, is absolutely not in my budget range right now, nor is it likely to be at any time in the future. And my skin type is supposedly not a good one for that kind of treatment anyway, too much risk of scarring.

Hope you find something that works out for you.

Thanks for the reply! My hair is more like fuzz - or at least used to look like fuzz. I think that ever since I have started removing it is has become more coarse in some areas.

It's O.K. for the most part- of course, no woman can stand facial hair regardless of how little it is. My sideburns are the worst.

My gynecologist determined it was no big deal...

Thanks for all your advice.

Hi,

Another question regarding the laser hair removal - did you have to grow your hair out prior to having the treatment done?

Thansk!

No, actually for best results, you need to come in clean shaven. The power of the laser hits the root, without weakening as it goes down the hair itself, so you shave off the hair.
