The color of your urine does not necessarily correlate to your health. The color may change due to what you are eating (red beets will make it look like you are bleeding, but they are still good for you and B vitamins can turn your urine yellow or orange) and what byproducts your kidneys are taking out of your body.

Yes, most people drink less water than they should. But NO, you should not tell people to drink "as much as possible".

I, like many other people, have great willpower. If I truly drank "as much as possible" for me, I would die from the resulting imbalance of salts.

Great ! Very Good, & Thanks for the quick reply & posting your informations.
The very fact is WATER is useful. Ya it was layman's language saying drink as much Water as possible. Just 3 or 4 liters, even 2 can be sufficient to get the desired benefits. It all depends how much Water you usually take every day - Just increase your intake gradually to Twice & than Four times to notice the Advantages & Benefits.

Ya, The color of the Urine depends on your intake of other Food / Medicines & Liquids. Again for just Thumb rule is that in natural course of living Its the indication of your health as such it is said that More Clear, Cleaner, & Lesser Color of Urine is indication of better health.

The above is just simple Indication and applicable to most people. There can be many exceptions, reasons & factors which if reflected, can be tackled with the help of Medical experts.

The purpose & function of this Post is to Share & Help in generalised sense, with no Claims or Substitution for necessary medical treatment. Also this may be of Immense Use & Benefits to 95 Percent People, While with some this may not be suitable or advisible & in few the same could be avoidable.

I Share, my positive experience, where I am convinced that I surely & extreamly resulted in Multifolded Advantages & Great Benefits. I also request to help me if any of you have some Ideas & Remedies that can be of help & Benefits. Any which way, Lets Share for better health & Lets "TAKECARE"

Takecare, your English on this board is A LOT better than the Arabic I would post in Oman (I know none at all). :)

I only wanted to make sure that no one would go wild and drink 20 liters!

Here, here. TakeCare I am so glad you put this up here, so many diabetics and just people in general don't drink enough water, they only drink it when they're thirsty, and usually only drinking when your thirsty is not enough to hydrate your body with those needed 8 cups a day count.

Water is a wonder drug.

Being Diabetic, a person's kidney's are at very high risk. Water just helps those poor things keep working smoothly, and flush out ketones. Also diabetics become dehydrated easier than most people. and it also helps the circulation(?)/blood flow in your veins so you'll bleed better for the finger poke/or getting blood drawn. Water makes the veins fat and juicy. Meaning those lab techs won't sit there and jab five times, digging into your arm for a good vein and then in the end just shove that baby right in your hand...and those, I can say from experience, [the hand pokes] are not nearly as pleasant as getting it drawn from the arm (it's slow and there's no fat in your hands to cushion the stick and if your hands get cold the nurses slap your hands to warm you up to get the blood flowing and it's just a mess:eek: .)

Gah, sorry I can just go off on a limb. Moral of the story. Drink, drink, drink, even if your not thirsty, water will make such a difference its incredible. It's also proven that if you drink lots of water (the recommended 8 cups or +) you can lose weight. So just drink it till it's coming out your ears:D

I drink between two and three litres of water a day. I add a tablespoon of cider vinegar and a few drops of habanero pepper sauce to each glassful to give it some flavour. The only other beverage I drink regularly is green tea, about six to eight cups a day. I have some people tell me that green tea is best, and others say it should be mixed with black tea. I also drink two or three cups of coffee a week. I used to drink a potful a day but cut it out a few months ago when I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic. The doctor told me I would have to lose weight and get more exercise. I have cut out all bread, rice, potatoes, cocoyam, bananas, plantain, fruit, and fruit juice. I eat a bowl of oatmeal in the morning with a teaspoon of honey, then make a big bowl of tuna salad with spinach, cilantro. parsley, onion, garlic, carrot, mushroom, olives, celery (especially the leaves) and sometimes a little grated cheese and a boiled egg. I douse it good with olive oil, a little vinegar, and some habanero sauce. I keep the big bowl in the fridge and whenever I feel hungry, about every two hours, I take up a small bowlful. I sometimes eat a tin of sardines as a special treat. In the first two months eating this way I lost over 20 pounds. I started weight training about six weeks ago and my weight loss has slowed, but I continue to lose fat from around my middle. I'm down from a 44 waste to a 38 and from 225 pounds to 195 and I feel like I'm about 25 years old. I live at the top flat of a three storey building and when no one else is around I do wind sprints up and down the stairway. I don't know if this is good for my long term health, but I know that in the meantime I'm feeling better than I have for years. I do worry about having another stroke - I had a massive stroke in 2003. I also worry that I am becoming diabetic, as I tend to urinate a lot.

Waste, waist. So listen, I was in a hurry, okay? And this computer does not have a context checker. Also I left out that I take two 500 mg fish oil capsules and one multi-vitamin capsule each day, and that about once a week I drink a glass of Milo with full-fat Klim. When I was eating around 1,800 calories a day I was gaining weight. Now I'm up to around 3,000, averaged over the week, and losing. Go figure.

That 3 - 4 litres of fluid has to go somewhere!

Markie - Thank you for responding. I suppose you are right - I hadn't really thought of it that way. All of this diet business is fairly new to me - I've always just eaten whatever I wanted.

What I would really like to know is whether the way I am eating is good or bad for my long-term health. I'm 66 years old and for the past 25 years have spent most of my time sitting at a computer. Before that it was a typewriter. I walk as much as I have time for, run on the stairs at night, and do some callisthenics and a bit of weight training early mornings. Is all this good or bad, and are my new eating habits likely to defend me against the onset of type 2 diabetes?
