Hi This is my first time here and my first post...I am interested in the subject of circumcision. When one has the operation is all the skin cut away and is it tight. when you have an erection is there a tension and is the skin pulled back.

Circumcisions vary in the amount of skin removed. In an adult the average is 15 square inches of skin area, about half or more of the total penile skin area. Nearly always circumcision leaves the glans (head) exposed all the time and in newly circumcised males this is usually very sensitive at first until the glans dries out and the keratin layer on it thickes to compensate. All the skin can be cut away leaving it tight with no movement but this carries the risk of taking too much and making erections painful.
Recovery times vary a lot but you could bank on 6-8 weeks without being able to masturbate or have sex and sometimes longer. Cutting all those blood vessels and through the lymph system usually causes swelling and bruising too. The swelling can last for six months or so.
I was circumcised at birth but after seeing an intact boy masturbate, when I was a kid, have always envied those who have full use of their foreskin. Foreskins can be tight but that can mostly be fixed by stretching (see my instructions at the top of the Mens Health Board).
Circumcision provokes polarised opinions. So you will get wildly varying reports of what to expect. Some men actually get sexual gratification surrounding the operation itself and the resulting look, so it is hard to find unbiased information anywhere on the net. I am biased against the procedure.
Are you just after information or are you seriously considering the operation? If so why?

How you have your circumcision performed is really a personal preference. You can have it tight and it won't really affect your erections. Your skin is amazingly stretchable and will actually adapt to the tension.

If you are circumcised it is a very safe and easy operation. Usually done in a doctors office and you are hope in a few hours. You might have a little discomfort for a few days and will need to abstain from sex or masturbation for a couple of weeks. There may be a little swelling but it is usually gone within a week.

The glans will keep, or gain, sexual sensitivity but will lose the painful, over -sensitivity due to not being exposed to air. The glans will also flare, or get bigger, due to not being constricted by the foreskin which will definitely be a plus for your partners.

Ta for the reply
I have always fancied the operation. I think it looks good on guys and I have been told by a few it feels good when it is bare and there is no skin and there is some tension. I have a brother who is older than i am and he has been done and there is fair sized flap behind his head and he can sometimes pull the remaining skin half way over his glans. Are you supposed to do that after the operation.? He isnt altogether satisfied. Can he have the remaining skin taken away, how much would it cost. i have seen lots of photos with erect circumcized penises and they look fantastic
any replies would be gratefully recieved

I think in the states an adult circumcision usually runs $1000-$1500. You just need to specfy how much skin you want left. It's totally up to you.

X5Driver, do you have any references or sources for this? I know guys who have painful erections, because their circumcisions were too tight.

I'm wondering about the guys in here who post that they still have swelling and discomfort after 6 months.

"The glans will keep, or gain, sexual sensitivity but will lose the painful, over -sensitivity due to not being exposed to air."

Do you have a source for this one? I have seen lots of guys post about hypersensitive glans in here, and some of them have been circumcised.

" The glans will also flare, or get bigger, due to not being constricted by the foreskin which will definitely be a plus for your partners."

This is simply not true. If you have a source, can we please see it?
A foreskin does not constrict the glans, otherwise circulation would be cut off.

To the original poster:
Good luck with your circumcision.
