I had a liver resection a year ago and still have a rigid running the length of the incision. Can anyone tell me if this is normal and will it ever go down at all? Thank you

I have the same thing. I don't think it will go away. I think it is scar tissue. I also have a very hard golf ball size knot right above my incission on the right side. Sometimes it really hurts. I have had it checked and its not a hernia. The dr said it was just scar tissue. I look like I was butchered!

thanks Fannylou....my scar is barely noticeable. The head of the liver transplant department at the Lied Centr here in Omaha did my surgery so I was very lucky. He had never seen a case like mine and took it because it intrigued him lol. Everything turned out fine inside, just some cysts but 45% of the liver, gallbladder and appendix were taken. Some people have told me to massage the area to break up the scar tissue but it doesnt seem to be helping. Just thought someone might have another idea because wearing some blouses and tops make the bump very noticeable. Thanks again for your answr.

Hello all.
While my surgery is fairly recent, July 06, my scar just started to raise considerably in the last few weeks. Enough to where you could see it through a shirt, just as you mentioned. A friend of mine gave me some silicone patches made by Neosporin. The directions say to wear them everyday for no less than 12 hours, and it supposedly helps the scar, in time, not be so visible. I have noticed nothing yet, other than, you can't see the scar through my shirts anymore...they buffer it creating a more smooth look when you are wearing them. So that has been nice.

Maybe try these patches...you never know. I am willing to give anything a try to not have my scar so noticible.

Hi,

Hi Fannylou, ltns..

I had my resection in April, along with cholesectomy. After realizing I couldn't eat ice cream anymore, I started feeling a ton better.

The top of the 11" incision has raised, about 3 inches of it. I'm told it's called a keloid scar. Massaging it makes it hurt.. ALOT. Then I also start feeling pain where the gallbladder was, so I've learned to just leave it alone.. Yeah, you can see the whole damn thing with a tight shirt on.

Like what Fannylou said, I'm also feeling a knot and I'm starting to think that I've got another tumor. I'm wondering if it could happen so soon?? Am I just thinking I feel another lump because once you have that scare you're always thinking it'll come back....

I just can't do that surgery again.. it was horrible.. Worse than my breast reduction which left me with 49 inches of incisions!

I suppose I need to have it checked out though, because wondering if there's another one is going to drive me insane.
