Just as a means of comparison, can someone tell me what is the fastest heart rate you have clocked during an attack ie 120 and so on. Assuming of course that your heart is ok.

Just trying to get an idea if it's true that anxiety attacks can cause a NORMAL heart to go very very fast!

Thanks

I never had my plus taken while I was having an attack. I can tell you that it felt like it was going atleast 3 times faster than it would normally be.

Do any of you guys ever get palpitations without anxiety attacks? You know your heart is pounding heavy and faster than normal maybe 90-105 that lasts for a while?

Somtimes my heart will just start at this rate and it will seem to get stuck like this sometimes for hours, again my heart has been checked out and except for the occasional PVC's nothing else is wrong.

Thanks

Yea I used to feel that way be4 I started taking meds. As soon as I would feel that feeling I would go right into an attack because I would think that I am having a heart attack. It's all part of anxiety. As long as you have been checked out..my guess this is the same for you.

Before I started taking beta blockers my heart rate would shoot up to 120 or so just by standing up. I don't know if anxiety was causing that, or the other way around. I'll probably never know. My cardiologist tells me my heart is fine, so I just have to believe him. I take beta blockers so now I don't have tachycardia all that often. They help me a lot in that respect.

When I was young and sitting still, it was clocked at 180 when I was anxious. Walking around, it was a little over 200. As I got 5-10 years older, it slowed down. Now, without meds, it will top out at about 140ish. With meds, maybe 120ish. It really varies depending on the person, the gender (women have naturally higher heart rates than men), the fitness of the person, the normal resting heart rate, the degree of anxiety, it can vary a lot. Basically, once a heart rate hits 120 and stays there for a while when a person is not exercising or something strenuous like that, a doc will want to run an EKG to make sure it is just regular sinus tachycardia. Rapid heart rates/palps are probably the most common anxiety symptom. Think about it---even when non-anxious people become scared or shocked or even excited, their heart rates go up, but they don't pay it any attention because they understand that their emotional state is causing it because of, say, a loud noise or happiness at seeing a couple get married. People with anxiety, and especially panic attacks, well, we get the symptom (rapid heart rate) without the proper context, so that freaks us out!
