can they mistake svt with panic.. the docs said it was svt but i know i was very panicing when this happened. i havent seen a cardiologist yet due to fear , but ive been fine since it happened over a year ago.. im asking because i really thiink i was panicing but my doc said svt.. i asked him if it was a panic attack and he said he didint know.. when in my heart i knew.. i asked him why he thought it was svt and he said because my heart rate was over 150, but cant panic attacks give you a heart rate of over 150?? i dont know if my doc knew what he was talking about.. thanks

Read the thread miche31 posted about SVT. What kind of doc was reading your EKG? If it wasn't a cardiologist they may have been wrong. When I had an event monitor on they called in SVT to my cardiologist, but he said it was just sinus tachycardia. Some people think SVT has to be like 200bpm, but I don't know much about it. If it has only happened to you once, I wouldn't be too concerned with it. (Yeah, I know, easier said than done.) :)

Probably the reason the doctor said he didn't know was because panic and svt aren't mutually exclusive. Panic can cause svt, as you suspected. I guess the real question is if you have svt frequently enough to treat it.

I know you're scared but just go see a cardiologist and have him/her read the results. A doctor at a clinic isn't as highly trained as a cardiologist. If it isn't happening frequently you're probably just having anxiety/panic related tachycardia. At least you'll know and it can be treated with a beta blocker. I'm on atenolol now for this very reason, my heart used to race well over 140 almost everyday. Now it's pretty normal, in the 70's and 80's mostly. I'd certainly get a second opinion from a cardiologist and I'm almost positive they'll tell you it's just tachycardia. No need to walk around being worried about it, just go.......I know you're scared but you'll be glad you did.
Take Care,

gxpark1234,
Nobody on this board can tell you what you DO or DO NOT have.
If you have questions about SVT post it on the Heart Disorders board or the best thing to do would be to see a Doctor to help ease your mind.
As you stated yourself once you stopped worrying that you had SVT your symptoms went away but then you read a post on this board about SVT and now you're worried again.
This is for EVERYONE who posts on this board.
If you suffer from another illness it's fine to discuss your anxiety over the other illness on this board....but if you want to discuss the illness itself post on the board that deals with that illness.
This is the Anxiety board, and as everyone who suffers from health anxiety knows...if you read about, there's a chance that you'll become very anxious and believe you suffer from it.
Please everyone stop and think before you post and don't make posts on this board that only add to the anxiety of already very anxious people.
Thank you for your cooperation.
