Hi, I'm new to this board and I am having surgery for a rectal prolapse next week. I'm an "elder" female with four grown children and five grandchildren... just to give you a hint of my age! I have a wonderful colo rectal surgeon at a major Boston hospital but my major concern is pain after surgery. Has anyone had this surgery? What is the pain like post op? How long did the recuperation take? Thanks for your information. NanaR

Nana, what procedure is your doctor doing? I had an abdominal sacrolcolopepexy (spelling?) and anterior and posterier repairs due to prolapsed bladder and rectum. I am almost 4 weeks post-op and the pain is still pretty bad with bowel movements. Do you have problems with bm's now? I am 36 years old with 4 kids. This is my 2nd attempt to fix the prolapses. Hi again, I don't know the name of the procedure but he is going through the perineum not the abdomen. The perineum is the area between the rectum and the vagina. He has told me that I will be in the hospital at least three days, perhaps more depending on when my bowels start moving again. They have told me that I will be given drugs that will help with the pain. I have heard that it was really painfull so I will be expecting it! I look forward to losing some weight. ( tough way to do it !) Thanks for your comments. I do hope that you will feel better soon.NanaR
