 Hi, my name's Kathryn and I'm excited to have found this board. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about 16 years ago and have struggled along since then. I last saw a rheumatologist about 3 years ago who said I still had it very badly but he couldn't offer any help whatsoever, so I'm really looking forward to getting suggestions from other people with it :)

H Kathryn, and welcome, i also have Fibro, diagnosed four or five yrs ago, i have just gone back to work part time four weeks ago!!!! I love it, but at the end of the day my joints are very stiff. I am so shocked on how long you have had your fibro, i often wonder if our fibro will eventually just go away or is this for life. Sometimes i feel really well and sometimes my joints are so sore and stiff it makes me cry. I find that not having had a full nights sleep in over 5 yrs is the worst part. I hope you find lots of help and support on here.

welcome kat,
ask your questions. there are many minds here with buckets of knowledge to offer. welcome to our little haven of insane sanity. you will find kind, caring, compassionate souls here willing to be your rock, your friend, your wailing wall. we laugh and we cry as we go thru life with fibro. it is for life so we learn to adapt. we do it together and that makes the journey more fun.
again i welcome you here. may you be as pleased with the friends you make here as i am.
peace,

Hi KayJay. I've had fibro for 20 years and been to all kinds of doctors and gone through all kinds of tests. Most just want to make me take medicines which don't help that much and I refuse to take any more because of the side affects. Heat helps, especially water therapy in a really warm pool. It's very important that you just keep moving even walking around the house if you don't feel up to anything else. I also found information on Leaky Gut Syndrome which I found very interesting because it causes so many of the problems I have with fibro and one article even said it can actually cause fibro. Just type Leaky Gut Syndrome in your search and lots of sites about it will come up. There's lots to read but it's worth the time. I have high hopes that getting tested for this is going to be a real break through for me.

Hi Jan, I enjoyed your post and the mention of Leaky Gut Syndrome had me asking myself to pull up some info from my brian that refuses to do so...so I will have to google it for a refresher. :) However, my pupose for posting is to say that there is a book out that equates many illness with diet. It began to be the diet for Chrone's disease (an autoimmune illness of the small intestine) but some specialist state it has helped many autistic syndrome children and other illnesses as well. the book is titled "Breaking the Vicious Cycle" in case anyone wants to check it out from their library.

Hi Kayjay:

Welcome to the board. I understand your journey through the valley of pain. Fibro can sure be a frustrating affliction to deal with.

I am on the Guafenesin protocol that was pioneered by Dr. Paul St. Amand. I have had very good success with this method, operating at about 80% recovery after 3 years. He authored a book entitled "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibromyalgia." I found it very helpful.

Blessings,
Kirstee
