View Full Version : How do I know to go up in Meds or to Change Meds?

I am going to see my Dr. but it seems he lets me run the show as he wants me to feel comfortable with my treatment. I am on 10mg of Lexapro for 3 weeks now and the anxiety and the "foggy" feeling is still there. However, it is better that before without this med. I have been on 40mg of Celexa before for a long time and that worked perfectly. I am thinking about asking to Dr to go to 20mg of Lexapro but I really dont know if I can handle the initial anxiety of the increased dosage. I have been chasing meds since May when Celexa pooped out on me. I wish it didnt because Celexa was awesome for me.

Maybe he could give you something else to take as needed for anxiety until the lexapro kicks in fully. In my opinion, and my psych also thinks this way, SSRI's and the like just don't cut it when it comes to anxiety. However some people can be helped with them so I don't want to say they just don't work at all. In my experience they always made my symptoms much worse plus weight gain so I can't deal with them anymore. Since you said your doctor allows you to call the shots with your treatment ask about taking something(a benzo like ativan, xanax, etc.) in addition to the upped dosage of lexapro until it kicks in for you. Just curious but isn't lexapro almost the same med as celexa?

Good luck with your doctor and your meds!

Lexapro is stronger than Celexa.

Celexa was awesome for me and Lexapro worked a few years ago. 20mg may be my next step. It is more than anxiety that is getting to me....its the act of feeling like crap/

I dont know when the weirdness, fogginess goes away. I can say that I have been on this before 4 years ago and it worked well for me. I am taking klonopin to help with teh anxiety. I can not describe to anyone the weirdness I feel. To me it feels like the med and the anxiety are fighting each other and they do not have an result.

I KNOW EXACTLY what you are going thru.........I too was on Celexa and LOVED it till it pooped out and my mood was so nasty...........I did not realize how bad till I went off it...............Been 4 years and still searching! I did the Lexapro but never felt good and got depressed and agaitated on...........just never went away and I take Klonopin as well. I am currently on 12.5 of zoloft.........very med sensitive...........Tried Lamictal and my mood was wonderful but I was soooooo dizzy and had a non stop sinus infection......it went away as soon as I stopped it............I HATE THIS...........just want to feel happy......... I have tried a few times to go back on Celexa and it is not pretty...........have you tried going back on? Some people can and some can't............keep us posted and good luck!

I was on Celexa for 3 years and it pooped out. Then I went on Lexapro and it worked for a year and then pooped out. I went back on Celexa and it was awesome for 2 years and then pooped out. I am wondering if I should just go back on Celexa and see if I can get the two-2 years. I am on Lexapro at 10mg and seeing the Dr. tonight, I was doing well on Celexa at 40mg and I am only on 10mg of Lexapro. So 20mg may make sense... I will let him decide. I take .25 klonopoin every morning. I just hate chasing meds and health. But...I am lucky as I have had meds work for me and other havent. So I am lucky

how does a med "poop out" on someone?
never heard that before...

For some reason.......the ssri meds tend to work great for some people for a year, 2-3 years or forever. My Dr explained it as drug poop out as the sensors in your brain become so used to the med(or oversensitised form the med) that it just stops working and when you try to go back on it ............the side effect are horrible and it does not work the same.......Drug poop out does exsist and IMO it is one of the reasons people have to go from drug to drug......... cause one quits and they have to search for another. So Frusterating!!:dizzy:
