Well I've been curious, I guess that's not the word...concerned that my daughter is underweight. She's 14 years old and about 5 foot 3 inches, and weights about 89 pounds. So my first question is..Is she underweight? And if so by how much? I really need to know because if this comes out how I expect it will, I have a second question. Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi Kylee http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wave.gif
Your daughter is definately underweight http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/bang.gif
I'm 5'4 & weigh 120 pds. Your daughter should at least at the very minimum weigh 110 pds. 115 pds is better. In her category 125 pds is max.
So, let us know what you want to know in your 2nd post. See you soon. Cat

I'm 5'2" and best I can remember my weight range is supposed to be between 105 or 110 for small build up to 126 on the high end for large build. Mel

Hi, Kaylee. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wave.gif
The others are right; your daughter is very underweight. I take it that you suspect that she may have an eating disorder, but we’ll wait until you ask your second question before we get into that!
Take care,
Ashlee

Wow, so my thoughts are confirmed, she's underweight. You see the reason why I wanted to know is because I suspect she has an eating disorder. She use to weight 115 and she just continues to lose weight. She never says anything about her weight to me at least, or anyone in our family for that matter, but I think that she's trying to hide it. She never eats a whole meal. Even the things she use to love, she never finishes. She takes very small portions and just picks at her food. At restraunts she says that the food is too spicy, or she just doesn't like. Her father and I ask her if she's eaten and she assures us she has and when we even look in the garbage there's the wrapper or whatever she swears she's eaten. Yet something in my gut just doesn't by it.
Her father and I were always very skinny in our youth, when we got married at age 20, I weighted a mear 100 pounds. I had no eating disorder but I fought with weight (not my choice, it just happened to be I couldn't gain) and I know how hard it was for me, health wise. I just don't want that to happen to her. Not to mention I know that if she's starving herself there are sooo many health issues which can arise.
Well thank you all in advance. I'll keep you posted.

I AM GLAD YOU HAVE REALISED SOMETHING IS WRONG. YOU NEED TO GET THE HELP SHE NEEDS AND DESERVES BEFORE THE EATING DISORDERS TAKES HOLD AND BECOMES TO STRONG. PLEASE DONT THINK SHE WILL GET BETTER IF SHE EATS A FEW MEALS. SHE WILL TRICK YOU INTO THINKING SHE IS OK. YOU NEED TO PROVIDE SUPPORT AS WELL AS FINDING TREATMENT FOR HER. PLEASE LET US KNOW HOW THINGS GO.
