I am wondering if suboxone helps coming off of methadone? How long do methadone w/d's last for? Any info on this would be so helpful. Thank you so much.

Have u checked the suboxone website to see if that's something they list that you can get off of using sub? Sorry I can't help. Debbie mpvt 10-19-2006, 04:01 PM You need to be at 30mgs or less and be stable before you can make the jump to buprenorphene. Also when your ready to move to buprenorphene you need to be in withdrawls.Try and stay off the methadone at least 2 days or longer if you can before starting the buprenorphene. If you don't wait the buprenorphene will push all the methadone off your receptors and you will go into the worst withdrawls you have ever experienced.Coming off methadone is nothing like coming off of any other opiate you've had.Good luck and the best advice I can give you is to detox as slow as possible and let your body start producing endorphins again otherwise you could suffer with PAWS for months and months....Dave:) peace1910 10-19-2006, 04:08 PM pardon my ignorance, but what is PAWS? peace mpvt 10-19-2006, 06:23 PM PAWS is Post Accute Withdrawl Syndrome basically what it is, is people that go cold turkey from heavy or long term abuse .They haven't weaned down and let there dopamine levels come back up also their endorphins are low because of the opiate abuse. So the patient feels depressed and fatigued, also there is cravings and even withdrawls. This can go on for months and sometimes it doesn't go away leaving the person to either go on a opiate painkiller for the rest of their life or just deal with it.People that are addicted to benzodiazepines and stop cold turkey or wean down to quickly often get PAWS.It's a terrible but mostly preventable sickness to get.....Dave:) sad,mum 10-19-2006, 06:52 PM Hi,just from my experience with daughtr she weaned from 70mg of methadone after 18 mnths to 30mg and was the worst w/ds she ever had,doc was heroin and crack, she then went onto 16mg of sub and after 8 weeks reduced at 2mg per 2wks but once she got down to 2mg she tried reducing at .4mg and couldnt do it,so after 6mths she is still at 2mg,my advice is yes go on sub but start reducing after i week, place a post to ratch he is an expert on sub.good luck, sadmum |
