View Full Version : Told they were reactive now WBC 17.4

Hey everyone,

I have not posted since June 06, after my FNA. I received a letter from the doctor stating that the node biopsied was reactive, he also told me the one under my collarbone was a "Probably a cyst". The nodes in my groin are still there and i have now found one on the lower part of my spine. I have been told that its because im thin that i can feel them and then i am told that they are reactive and thats why they are swollen. What i would like to know is are they "normal" in size and im to thin or are they enlarged slightly? There seems to be no one person can agree.

Anyway, the reason i have stayed away from the boards was because i felt i was becoming obsessed with this thing and decided that if the FNA came back clear i would put it all behind me and move on.

I have just had a chest infection "coughed up blood flecked sputum for 3 days so they done bloods, sputum and chest xray. The lab grew some bacteria from my sputum which confirmed slight & mild form of pneumonia, the xray report "patchy consolidation at the base of both lungs", again this confirms infection. Bloods came back with a WBC of 17.4. This again confirms infection. My question is, is this very high? my doctor thinks its excessively high for WBC just because of fighting infection. He wants to redo the test on Friday which will be over a month since it was first done to see if it is coming down. he also advised that my chest has noises in it still and i still have a vague cough which i have always had and cough up brown flecked sputum and wants to repeat the xray at the end of October if this has not cleared up.

Is this normal procedure for a chest infection and could some one please give me some information on the WBC's and their normal and abnormal ranges and how high do you have to go to be worried and if anyone has experienced anything like this before perhaps you could share your story with me?

im sorry for turning manic on you all, i guess i just need sanity to prevail for me.

Good luck to you all and thanks in anticipation
