Hi I am 26 and recently recovered from hodgkins lymphoma. I had 6 months of chemotherapy, had a PET scan and everythin was clear. I just had my 6 month checkup , a ct scan and the doctor said my mass of scar tissue that was left has shown a significant increase in size. The doctor then tells me he is worried the cancer has returned. I am currently waiting to get another Pet scan to find out. The doctor says that if the cancer has returned I may need a transplant. I dont know much about a transplant, my understanding is that its a higher dose of chemo and they take bone marrow out, freeze it and put it back after treatment. Does anyone know how long this type of treatment could take and does anyone have any information. I am so upset, scared and I cant imagine goin through this again and by the sounds of it , an even worse treatment then the first time.

Rlene, I am so sorry to hear about your cancer. My daughter had liposarcoma
(soft tissue tumor) had it removed and has been cancer free for 3 years. She is 27. It is still so scarey everytime she has an MRI. Then a dear friend had leukemia, full body radiation and a BMT. She was clear for 7 years and it returned. She told me that the BMT was a little painful and had to be in the hospital for 1 month. Call the ACS and I'm sure they can give you more info. Sorry I can't help more, Dyana

Hi Rlene

I don't have any answers for you, sorry.

Just wanted to wish you luck and remind you that IF it has returned - you were strong enough to beat it once and you CAN do it again.

Take care

Ails xx

I just wanted to encourage you. I know this is a scary time but believe in the light at the end of this tunnel. I dont know much about the transplant process but I do know that its HIGHLY successful with Hodgkins. I myself am a Hodgkins survivor..This is my 11th year. GOD Bless and please keep us posted.

Doctors can be worriers too! Just wait for the answers as patiently as possible and hopefully you will find out the scar enlarged because you began to eat and feel better.Transplants are tricky but with the good mental health and motivation to get well they work pretty good in younger people.
