On Thursday, I am having surgery. My gall bladder is being removed. I will be doing the out patient surgery. Can anyone tell me what to expect and if the recovery is quick. Any tips on changes in diet and what not to eat? Does not having a Gall bladder increase the chances of getting high cholesterol?

Just stick to a no fat or lowest fat diet you can. For several weeks...and then SLOWLY introduce fats back into your diet. And it has nothing to do with your cholesterol levels. So don't worry about that. You'lll just have a small bile duct trying to do the work of the gb so take it slowly on the food.
My recovery was very easy...off work 2 full days, worked 1/2 the next one and then full time after that. Also jogged 2 miles a week after having it out. Now, before everyone jumps on me....not everyone has it this easy. I was just in tremendously good shape and have a high pain threshold. Just ask your doc for his recommendations on activity and follow them and your body.Good luck and let us know how you do.

There are MANY posts on GB surgery on this board if you do a search. It is a quick and common surgery. I had mine out over a year ago. The hardest part is the few days after surgery. Pretty painful. Just have someone there to help you. And I would suggest eating low-fat after surgery as I jumped into the fatty foods too soon and experienced cramps, nausea and diarrhea.

Good Luck!

Hi - I'm glad you asked because I'm having mine out on Nov 1st. I keep hearing that it's a relatively easy surgery as far as surgeries go. I'm a little nervous because I've never had surgery where I've gone under - just a c-section with a spinal. Good luck to you and be sure to let us know how you're doing once you're able.

The surgery was no big deal. I was out the same day, went back to work the next day. Some people just play it up a little bigger than what it is IMO. I couldnt see anyone being floored for more than 2-3 days at the MOST after this surgery. It's really easy.
