Yesterday I woke up and had a pain in my chest when breathing... The pain only occured when i inhaled deeply as i filled my lungs fully, it was around the middle of my chest on the left side. The pain subcided but I then got very bad pain in my left shoulder, the pain was an aching sensation.

The shoulder pain has now gone, but comes back slightly after i hang my arm freely for more than 10 - 15 minutes.

My doctor said it is muscular, which I can understand as I often find myself sleeping in awkward positions and waking up with a painful shouler.

I now have a very strange feeling in my chest. It started when I initially got the pain in my chest. I noticed a kind of clicking feeling in my chest near the centre bone.... I ignored it but now the other problems have gone I am concerned about this clicking as I now have other symptoms. First of all when i moved around, particularly when bending over i noticed an unplesant feeling of something moving in my chest area, it has now grown to an extremely heavy feeling in the left side of my chest which can take my breath away when aschending (standing up), it almost even feels like trapped air that i can't burp up. I however feel fine when resting or remaining sitting/lying down.

With up and down movements it feels like i can feel it moving, and it takes me breath away slightly.

I plan to wait a few days to see if it gets better, and then visit my doctor. Has anyone heard about anything like this before? Could this feeling in my chest be linked to my shoulder injury?

Did your doctor take an X-ray?

I didn't actually visit the doctor. I discussed my symptoms on the phone and I was told to wait, and if it continues to cause me problems to make an appointment.

I would make an appointment or go to the ER. The person you talked to over the phone was not a doctor and can't diagnose. Unless you are actually seen, you won't know what the problem is. Cardial? Vascular? Food in the esophagus? Back problems? Pulled Muscle? You won't know until you actually see a doctor. I wouldn't wait. Especially with pain in your chest, short breath, and vascular problems in your left arm. Don't let the nurse over the phone decide your treatment. Insist on a Dr. Visit. Or, find a new doctor that will treat you.
It's your health that matters.

It could be pleurisy. Get an appointment with your Doctor.
