View Full Version : Possible diabetes?

I haven't been feeling very well for months. In a matter of 4 months I lost 25lbs and my eating habits have not changed. In fact, I'm hungry all the time and I eat all the time. I'm currently down to 102lbs (I'm 5'8"). I have been to the doctor but they can't seem to find anything wrong. I had bloodwork and they supposedly tested me for diabetes but he said everything came back find and they are just going to monitor me for now.

Well, I've talked to numerous people and they feel that I'm showing early signs of diabetes. So I got a monitor and for the first time at lunch today, I tested my levels. Before lunch it was 88. 2 hrs after lunch it jumped to 210. The one girl I was talking to, said that definately is not right. But on the same hand I did eat a lot of carbs at lunch. (I ate a packet of Ramen noodles for lunch). Even with eating that, does 210 seem pretty high??

I'm go for my next weight check to the doctor's next week. I'm going to write down what I eat and the readings I get. I just really would like to know what is going on. I look awful and I feel awful.

Thanks for reading.

It's quite possible that you are developing diabetes, but that you're in the early stages. 210 after a meal is not normal for a non-diabetic, even for a fairly high carb meal. Keep testing (especially after meals...try testing after breakfast, lunch, and dinner...start timing when you start eating, and test at the 2 hour mark.) If you're consistently high, you may be developing insulin resistance, which is a precursor to T2 diabetes. If so, the sooner you learn to manage it, the better. You just may need to cut back on carbs for now (not cut OUT, just cut back!).
