It could possibly be kidney stones. He really needs to go to the doctor to be diagnosed, but kidney stones can cause the type of pain your are describing and also the blood in the urine.

Blood in urine is a good sign of a UTI. It could also be some kind of kidney problem. The best and only thing you can really do is have him go to the doctor. He should have made an appointment as soon as he noticed the blood! Take him!!!
Pain in the side is also the result of a persons testicles not getting enough blood. I had an incredible pain in my side area, the same pain when you run for long periods except it stays forever. Two surgeries later I had my blood vessels tied to make sure they wouldnt get tangled again. So he could have that.

std? I had a friend (one who fooled around) that woke up to go pee, and was surprised by sevier pain, and blood in his urine. An emergency visit to the ER revealed that he had contracted an std! Needless to say, his common-law wife, booted him out for good..:blob_fire

He probably has some kidney stones...but also could be a bladder or UTI....
This is nothing to play with....if it is a UTI, you don't want to let it go untreated.
Get him to the doctor's office.
