I've only ever used the Lantus pen, which sucks imo.

Quite honestly, there isn't much choice when it comes to pens, cause you have to get the kind that works with the type of insulin you use.

I have heard the Novo pens are the best though.

I am looking for a smaller pen than my lilly. WHat exactly is levemir. it doesnt say that it is a fast acting insulin, while i know novolog is fast acting.

Novolog and Levemir are both availible in flexpens and both have cartridges that fit the Novopen 3 (a non-disposable insulin pen). Both Levemir and Novolog are insulins made by Novo Nordisk. Novolog is fast acting and has an action profile pretty much identical to Humalog. Levemir is a long acting insulin that has no peak and lasts between 12-18 hours. It's similar to Lantus except doesn't last quite as long.

No, you don't use Lantus on the pump.

I have the Lantus pen just in case my pump fails.

You very rarely have to do injections on the pump...only if your bs is quite high, your pump fails, or you are taking a pump break. However, the infusion site insertion is generally significantly more painful than an infusion site insertion in my experience, so you might want to get comfortable with injections before making that move.

thats why i wanted to get numbing cream. i think it wouldnt be too bad to use it every 3rd or 4th day, so i wouldnt feel anything

Adults rarely use the numbing cream cause you have to leave it on and covered for an hour before it works, but I suppose you could use it if you want to.
